Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, a former WWE wrestler turned Hollywood superstar, has long embraced the nickname “The Brahma Bull.” Johnson’s self-identification with the Brahma bull stems from his admiration for the animal’s strength, tenacity, and unwavering spirit.

Throughout his career, both in the wrestling ring and on the big screen, Johnson has embodied the qualities of the Brahma bull, consistently displaying determination and resilience in the face of challenges.

His use of the moniker is a defining aspect of his personal brand so it made sense to use it as a team name for the XFL they had purchased out of bankruptcy in 2020. Then on July of 2022, the XFL announced the new team in San Antonio call the Brahmas. The rest is Spring football history.

San Antonio Brahmas: A New Era in Football

The San Antonio Brahmas are based in San Antonio, Texas, are competing in the United Football League (UFL) as a member of the XFL Conference. The XFL and USFL merged in 2023 to form the UFL. The team was established on July 25, 2022 and played one season in the XFL before being part of the merger with the USFL and being one of four surviving XFL teams.

The Brahmas play their home games at the Alamodome and have a franchise regular season record of 6-8 (0.428), the highest win percentage among UFL teams as of its 2024 season.

In their inaugural 2023 XFL season, the Brahmas compiled an overall record of 3–7, missing the playoffs. Following the 2023 season, head coach Hines Ward resigned and was replaced by former Houston Roughnecks head coach Wade Phillips.
