The UFL selected Michael Wade as Vice President of Communications. Wade fills the position left by Jeff Altstadter’s departure earlier this offseason. Michael Lathrop first reported it and we were able to confirm from our sources.

Wade brings 18 years of NBA experience as Director of Team Business and Partner Operations. His NBA tenure included management of communications for Team Marketing & Business Operations, Global Strategy & Innovation, and Facilities across the NBA, WNBA, and G League.

Wade’s LinkedIn profile outlines his sports accomplishments:

“Proven media relations executive who has made his mark with the NBA, ESPN, and the NFL, as well as the country’s top PR agencies. Strong and trusted connector in the sports and entertainment industry with expertise in results-driven strategy.”

His sports media background includes work with:

  • ESPN
  • NFL Insider Magazine
  • NFL Films
  • PGA Golf
  • Sirius Satellite
  • Fox Searchlight Films
  • World League of American Football

Wade becomes the third VP of Communications in spring football’s recent history, following Jeff Altstadter (XFL) and Darryn James (USFL). UFL News Hub heard from sources at the time that James turned down an offer to return to Spring Football. Altstadter landed on his feet as Head of Public Relations and Communications with startup Joypix.

The UFL’s communications department operated without a VP since Altstadter’s exit. Wade steps in as the league prepares for its second season in 2025. UFL Director of Communications and Media Relations Bianca Gamez has been filling in the role during the off-season.

This week the UFL is also sponsoring Front Office Sports’ Future of Sports: Mergers & Acquisitions event taking place on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Wendy Bass EVP of Business Operations from the United Football League will be speaking at this event.
