As Offseason Continues, Battlehawks Make Splashes in Free Agency

The Battlehawks are hungry gaining into 2025, as the UFL’s most passionate fanbase continues to wait for their first taste of post-season success. St. Louis, which holds the honor of being the UFL’s most impactful fanbase has continued to roll through the off-season signing multiple players with NFL pedigrees, while also retaining some of their top-talent from the past Two seasons.

Offense:

Blake Jackson WR

Jackson returns to St. Louis for his 8th season in professional football. A veteran of the 2020 XFL, Jackson has totaled 57 receptions, 510 receiving yards, and 3 TDs over parts of Three seasons in Spring Football. Jackson’ versatility also doubles in special teams as he filled in nicely for Darrius Shepherd who remains unsigned.

Denzel Mims WR

A former 2nd round pick, Mims comes to St. Louis with an NFL pedigree of 30 games (15 starts), along with 42 receptions, and 676 yards. Mims was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, after spending the first part of career with the Jets.

Defense:

Travis Feeney DL

Feeney is a Battlehawks fan favorite who comes back to St. Louis for his 5th season in spring football. A former 6th round pick Feeney has amassed 150 tackles and 14.5 sacks in his career with the AAF, USFL, XFL, and UFL.

Avery Young FS

After 54 starts at Rutgers, Young has had two stints with NFL teams during the 2023, before landing up in the CFL until May with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Young comes to Battlehawks in the hopes of providing a spark that at times was missed in 2024.

Kemoko Turay DL

Another 2nd round pick, Turay left Rutgers with an All-American honors, and a senior bowl invite before being drafted by the Colts in 2018. A pass rushing specialist, Turay amassed 12.0 sacks in his NFL career, and should be an excellent addition off the edge in 2025.

Pita Taumoepenu DL

After making a splash with the Vegas Vipers in 2023 earning XFL Defensive Player of the Year, and All-XFL honors, Taumoepenu came to St. Louis in free agency to supplement the Battlehawks pass rush following his stint with the Jets. Going into his 8th Professional season, Taumoepenu looks to continue his dynamic play going into 2025.

Other Battlehawks Notes:

After signing with St. Louis Wide Receiver Andy Isabella returned to the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers on their practice squad. Per Mike Mitchell, Isabella plans to stay with the Battlehawks over any offseason futures deal. Also, on the workout cycle for NFL teams was Battlehawks kicker Andre Szymt. Szymt worked out with the Jets Tuesday afternoon who are dealing with an ineffective Greg Zuerlein. Szymt now has received Four NFL workouts since the conclusion of the 2024 UFL season. If unsigned by an NFL team, Szymt will remain with the Battlehawks as his LOI was signed in August.

Currently St. Louis has 37 players signed for the 2025, however still has major questions at Quarterback, Linebacker, along with Seven players who signed NFL contracts that have not signed LOIs yet. Since their return in 2023, the Battlehawks have amassed a 14-6 record (0-1 in playoffs), while searching for their first championship since their inception in 2020.
