With the UFL regular season set to begin in less than 60 days UFL rosters saw a bit of a shake up with some familiar faces announcing their retirements. Gray finishes his career with 110 receptions, 1078 receiving yards, and 5 TDs across 4 Spring League seasons.
Trey Quinn Michigan Panthers
Another Michigan Panthers Receiver Trey Quinn also announced his retirement. The Mr. Irrelevant of the 2018 NFL Draft Quinn enjoyed Four years of NFL success before transitioning to the USFL with the Michigan Panthers. Quinn would earn an NFL opportunity once more with the Detroit Lions spending time on their Practice Squad before signing with the Panthers once again for the 2024 season. Quinn’s retirement was announced last week on January 24th after recording 64 receptions for 678 yards and 5 TDs to go along with 35 receptions and 273 yards in his NFL career.
Michael Joseph Defensive Back
An All-XFL selection in 2023, Joseph announced via social media he is ultimately retiring. A Division-III product from Dubuque, Joseph spent 2018 to 2022 with his hometown team the Chicago Bears before signing with the D.C. Defenders in January of 2023. Joseph was one of spring football’s elite tacking defenders in the secondary finishing his career with 99 tackles and 4 interceptions, 2 of which were returned for touchdowns.
Mike Stevens Defensive Back
A veteran of the 2020 XFL, Stevens joined the New Orleans Breakers in 2022 becoming a key piece in their secondary. After not being selected in the 2024 UFL dispersal draft, Stevens spent the season as a free agent before ultimately calling it a career late last week. Over Three spring football seasons Stevens totaled 68 tackles, 1.0 sack, and 3 interceptions in his career with the LA Wildcats, and New Orleans Breakers.
As the 2025 season approaches UFL players continue to weigh the options of what the next step in life entails moving forward. With salaries always a topic of conversation many mainstays of the league will continue to transition to hire paying opportunities in an effort to provide for themselves and families. Last season between the USFL-XFL merger and lack of improvements in salaries many players found themselves looking for the next objective, making the hard choice to hang up the helmet. With training camp rapidly approaching more retirements are likely to be announced.
