In a move that may have surprised some the Battlehawks made a QB swap on the roster with the post season clinched. The team reactivated their 2024 1st Round Pick Chevan Cordeiro while releasing Quarterback Trae Self who was signed prior to week 4.
Cordeiro returns to the active roster after injuring his hamstring during practice leading up to the Battlehawks matchup vs the Renegades. After being placed on injured reserve the Battlehawks would lose starting Quarterback Manny Wilkins due to an Achillies injury that sidelined him for the year.
Self was brought in a developmental QB who all things considered was in a decent position to learn behind Wilkins and Max Duggan. Upon the injury to Wilkins, the Battlehawks brought back Brandon Silvers who was immediately placed in the QB2 spot. Self’s release may be telling of the confidence that Anthony Becht has in Silvers and the need for veteran leadership from the spring league mainstay.

With the Battlehawks playing for the “XFL Conference Title” that is more “in name only”, Anthony Becht during his Week 8 post-game presser alluded to the possibility of some reserve players getting some action. With Silvers not having played since 2023, and Cordeiro yet to make his professional debut the Battlehawks could possibly see some changes under center during the final Two weeks. Right now, despite some erratic play through the air Starting QB Max Duggan has been able to lead the Battlehawks to a 4-0 record as a starter enroute to their 2nd consecutive playoff berth.
