In what was a “slow” week for the Battlehawks transactions wire, St. Louis did manage to confirm the return of a Quarterback for 2024, in addition to adding another Running Back. This past week the Battlehawks confirmed the return of 2023 backup QB Manny Wilkins, while also adding Running Back Jacob Saylors for the 2024 season. The team also announced they have waived RB Max Borghi, as well as Offensive Lineman Khalil McKenzie a dispersal draft selection.

Another Running Back!

Since the release of Max Borghi St. Louis has not only added Wayne Gallman, but now Jacob Saylors from East Tennessee State. Saylors was a UDFA in 2023 spending time on the practice squad of the Bengals and Falcons. Saylors rushed for over 3,800 yards in college, while also adding almost 2,300 yards between Kick Returns and as a receiving option. The versatile Saylors could provide Bruce Gradkowski a Borghi-Lite option in the Battlehawks offense.

A Quarterback Confirmed!

While A.J. McCarron has made waves on social media after his interview with Matty Fresh about his status with the league, the Battlehawks did confirm backup QB Manny Wilkins will be returning for the 2024 season. Wilkins was signed after the team released Ryan Willis and remained as the QB3 for the majority of the season. Wilkins was elevated to QB2 for the final weeks of the season due to injuries to A.J. McCarron and Nick Tiano. He did not record any statistics for the Battlehawks in 2023.

Final Thoughts:

While the Battlehawks did add an additional player as well as confirming Wilkins for 2024, they officially have removed Max Borghi and Khalil McKenzie from their 2024 roster. While Borghi has made it clear to Sports Illustrated that he is moving on to other options, McKenzie’s status was not confirmed by the league. While Offensive Lineman are always in need at any level of football the Battlehawks do return 4/5 starters from 2023, as well as Eric Magwood who started Two games for the team when Jared Jones-Smith was suspended.

Currently the Battlehawks roster sits at 71 players with teams allowed to expand the roster to 75 until February 14th. UFL teams report to training on February 23rd with the Battlehawks beginning play at Ford Field against the Michigan Panthers in week One.
