The Battlehawks made the final touches to their 2024 roster prior to week 1. St. Louis released Eight players leading up to their matchup against Michigan, with several players from the 2023 squad getting waived.

2023 Players Released:

Steven Mitchell, Kevin Atkins, and Dallas Warmack, all were released after spending 2023 with the team. Atkins spent some time with the Giants during NFL training camp, becoming a fan-favorite on the Defensive Line last season. Mitchell and Warmack served as rotational players for St. Louis at their respective positions, ultimately getting replaced by by “new blood” on the 2024 squad. A 2022 XFL Draft Pick of the Battlehawks Emeke Egbule was also released. Egbule opted to sign with Pittsburgh Steelers in December of 2022, and would also have a short stint with the Edmonton Elks before signing with St. Louis on December 6th of 2023.

2023 Rookies Released:

Nico Bolden and Darion Chafin were Two rookies the Battlehawks signed during the summer of 2023. Chafin was signed as the Battlehawks began training camp due to injuries at the Wide Receiver position, with Nico Bolden signing his LOI in October of 2023. Both players are still looking to make their professional debuts in 2024 with possibly another team.

Newcomers Released:

Chris Garrett and Drew Lewis were Two newcomers released with veteran experience during final cuts. Garrett a Division-II product was a 7th round pick in 2021 with the Rams earning a Super Bowl ring with the team his rookie season. Lewis is a spring football veteran who was signed after an injury to Johnny Buchanan, as training camp was underway.

Final Thoughts:

With the roster now set, St. Louis can focus on the their Week One bout against the Michigan Panthers. The Battlehawks look to make their first playoff berth in franchise history after a controversial 2023 that ended with a controversial tie-breaker. With the Battlehawks roster now set at 50, fans can begin focusing on the 2024 season which hopefully ends with a St. Louis Championship.

    Very surprised to see WR Steven Mitchell released by the Battlehawks! He played well for them in 2023 so hopefully another UFL team will sign him.
