After a series of several NFL workouts, it appears that Andre Szmyt finally has an NFL opportunity. The 1st year Battlehawks Kicker has been a consistent figure in the NFL’s workout circuit but now looks to make an impact for the future, with Two weeks remaining in the NFL season. On Christmas Eve it was reported Szmyt has signed with Cleveland Browns on their practice squad.

Szmyt joined the Battlehawks after the UFL dispersal draft as a free agent replacing Donny Hageman who was not retained. The former Syracuse Alum went 19/21 for the Battlehawks in 2024, with a long of 61, improving on Hageman’s 2023 season. Szmyt embarks on his 2nd NFL opportunity as he spent 2023 in camp with the Chicago Bears.

Szmyt becomes the 75th UFL player from the 2024 season to earn an NFL opportunity, along with the 8th Battlehawk this year to join an NFL team. With the UFL season less than 100 days away, the Battlehawks may consider bringing back a familiar face like Andrew Meavis who was in camp with them, or a recent candidate from the UFL’s Specialist Showcase. The 2025 UFL season is scheduled to kick off March 28th, with schedules for teams coming out before the new year.
