The Battlehawks have been pretty quiet on the waiver wire this season compared to the last Two years as the 2025 season goes into it’s 3rd week of play. However, as injuries begin to pile mount, the team reshuffled the roster slightly. Going into their matchup vs the D.C. Defenders, the Battlehawks made their first transaction of the regular season waiving fan favorite, and special teams ace Jerome Kapp from the teams injured reserve.
Kapp was going into his second season with St. Louis since coming out of Division II Kutztown University. Kapp was a viral “superstar” with the NY Jets garnering fame due to his “8-Mile” impression before being waived by NY during final cuts in 2023. He’d latch on with the Battlehawks last season, becoming a key piece in New York’s Special Teams unit, registering 8 tackles through 9 games.
Kapp would end 2024 on the Battlehawks injured reserve, leading the way to Kevon Latulas to fill the void as a gunner on Kyle Caskey’s Punt team. Latulas would register 3 tackles in the final regular season game of 2024 while adding 3 more in the playoffs. Recently Latulas was registered another 2 tackles this past weekend on the Punt team possibly overtaking Kapp’s role.
With the emergence of Latulas on special teams, and the promise of Sam Wiglusz as a reserve WR, Kapp’s role coming back from injury, may have made him expendable. In a league of opportunity, often times a player’s chances to prove themselves come at the expense of another players misfortune. For Kapp, if healthy the Division II product has plenty of promise to prove himself, if another team finds themselves looking thin at the WR position as the season progresses. The Battlehawks are scheduled to return to St. Louis taking on the D.C. Defenders in hopes of improving to 3-0 in 2025.
