Late Monday evening the UFL PR department announced that the league had agreed to terms with 61 players. While many of these players were simply confirming their standing with the league going into the 2024 season, many teams did add additional free agents to their roster. While St. Louis did confirm several players who were apart of the 2023 team, including those claimed during the dispersal drafts, the Battlehawks did add a Kicker from Syracuse.
Familiar Faces:
Per the UFL PR the Battlehawks have confirmed the return of Offensive Lineman All-XFL Guard Steven Gonzalez, Juwan Bushell-Beatty, Dallas Warmack, and Eric Magwood. Specialist Sterling Hofritcher, and Alex Matheson also have signed LOI’s to return along with Linebacker Lakiem Williams.
Dispersal Draft Signees
The Battlehawks also saw the confirmation of newly drafted players signing their contracts to confirm their status with the team in 2024. Defensive Back Kameron Kelly (San Antonio Brahmas) and Offensive Tackle Sage Doxtater (Houston Roughnecks) officially confirm their intent to join the Battlehawks as well.
New Face in a New Place:
One of the newest faces to St. Louis will be Kicker Andre Szmyt. Szmyt comes to St. Louis joining fellow Orangeman Sterling Hofrichter his teammate for Three seasons. Szmyt earned numerous accolades in college including the Lou Groza award, along with All-American honors in 2018. Szmyt left Syracuse holding several Orangeman records including most points, most Fields Goals, and most PATs. Szmyt would earn a contract with the Chicago Bears only to be released in early August.
Currently the St. Louis roster sits at 69 players as the UFL is set to have a hard date of February 14th for the confirmation of their 75 players going into training camp. With only Two Quarterbacks on the roster, the Battlehawks are poised to add a 3rd signal caller with the possibility of additional Defensive Lineman as well. The UFL is slated to kick off on March 30th with a schedule still pending.
