While fans of the UFL and specifically the Battlehawks have been extremely optimistic about A.J. McCarron’s status for Week 8’s matchup vs the D.C. Defenders, Dave Boller and Anthony Becht took precautionary measures for the QB position. The team opted to sign an NFL and XFL veteran in Drew Plitt who recently spent time with the Arlington Renegades during training camp of 2024.
Plitt joins the Battlehawks with McCarron looking to be inactive for Week 8. Plitt was a UDFA in 2022 for the Cincinnati Bengals before being released during the conclusion of training camp. Plitt would be drafted by the XFL’s Arlington Renegades earning the starting job over All-USFL QB Kyle Slater for the 2023 XFL season. Plitt would start Three games for Arlington in 2023 throwing for 668 Passing Yards 3 TDs, 5 Ints, while adding 57 yards on the ground. Plitt brings to the Battlehawks a bit of experience, along with some familiarity as A.J. McCarron, and Plitt both spent time with the Bengals during the 2023 NFL season.
With the signing of Plitt it would appear that McCarron is trending downward for playing this week. The Battlehawks will have an “all hands on deck” mentality with their roster in week 8, with both Manny Wilkins and Brandon Silvers set to take reps this week. Silvers has been a consistent figure in spring football throwing for over 3300 Passing Yards and 32 TDs in his career, while Wilkins has made his season debut against the D.C. Defenders earlier this season, scoring a rushing TD in his pro-debut.
