On the first official day of training camp to start the 2024 UFL season. The UFL announced in a press release that the San Antonio Brahmas were among many teams that signed new players to their roster. With that addition to their roster, the Brahmas have added cornerback Thakarius “BoPete” Keyes.

UFL teams were allowed to bring 75 players to camp, and the most recent Brahmas roster did show that they had a full roster, but with the addition of Keyes, there is most likely a player who either did not report to training camp or will be leaving training camp. Keyes should provide healthy competition to the defensive backfield for the Brahmas. As training camp begins, the Brahmas defense has several All-XFL defensive linemen and All-XFL linebackers, but the defensive backfield is an area that the Brahmas need to focus on for growth.

BoPete Keyes comes to the Brahmas after spending time on several NFL rosters since being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Keyes spent the 2020 and a portion of the 2021 season with the Chiefs, appearing in eight games and recording eight tackles. In 2021, he spent time with the Chiefs, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Chicago Bears, and he played in five games and registered two tackles. The Mississippi native then spent the 2022 season with the Chicago Bears but did not appear in any games in 2022. He was signed and waived by the Cleveland Browns in 2023 and signed a futures/reserve contract with the Baltimore Ravens.

Keyes is a 26-year-old, 6’1″, 202-pound native of Laurel, Mississippi. He played college football at Tulane University from 2016 until 2019. During those four seasons, he played 40 games and registered 95 tackles and two interceptions.
