As the UFL regular season dwindled in Week 9, there were two defining features: upsets of the teams at the top of the USFL and XFL conference standings and the success of quarterbacks tandems. One of those tandems, Chase Garbers and Quinten Dormady of the Brahmas, helped lead San Antonio to a win over the Birmingham Stallions to end the Stallion’s 15-game win streak. Luis Perez led another upset as he helped the Renegades pick up their second win of the season with a 36 to 22 victory over the Saint Louis Battlehawks.

For many UFL teams, using a tandem of quarterbacks has become necessary due to injuries at the quarterback position. Other teams in the UFL have started evaluating the quarterbacks on their roster after not qualifying for the playoffs. Regardless of the team’s situation, quarterback tandems have been successful across the UFL and may provide more opportunities for quarterbacks looking for more lucrative opportunities after the UFL season.

Let’s look at how the quarterbacks of the UFL performed in Week 9.

#1 Luis Perez, Arlington Renegades (2-7)

While the Arlington Renegades have struggled to find consistency during the 2024 season, quarterback Luis Perez has established himself as a successful leader for the Renegades offense each week. In Week 9, Perez completed 24 out of 36 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns, allowing the Renegades to upset the Saint Louis Battlehawks. Perez’s performance led to a quarterback efficiency rating of 154.6.

#2 Jordan Ta’amu and Jalan McClendon, DC Defenders (4-5)

The DC Defenders have struggled to match the success of the 2023 XFL season during the 2024 UFL season, which has opened the door to evaluating the quarterbacks on their roster. This week, the combination of Ta’amu and McClendon helped the Defenders pick up their fourth win by defeating the Memphis Showboats 36 to 21. Ta’amu completed 20 out of 24 passes for 231 yards, resulting in two touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding 38 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries. Jalan McClendon completed 3 out of 6 passes for 40 yards, adding five carries for 14 yards and a touchdown. The combined quarterback efficiency rating of Ta’amu and McClendon was 141.6.

#3 Chase Garbers and Quinten Dormady, San Antonio Brahmas (7-2)

Every week, the San Antonio Brahmas keep finding a way to separate themselves as a top team in the UFL despite facing major injury issues, especially at the quarterback position. For the last several weeks, the Brahmas offense has been led by Quinten Dormady after Chase Garbers injured his wrist against the Saint Louis Battlehawks in Week 3, but Week 9 marked the return of Garbers. Dormady started the game for the Brahmas, completing 3 out of 4 passes for 44 yards. Garbers then returned to the Brahmas offense, completing 16 out of 23 passes for 139 yards. The tandem of Garbers and Dormady ended the game with a combined quarterback efficiency rating of 120.3, which was good enough for the Brahmas to end the Stallions win streak.

#4 Danny Etling and Bryce Perkins, Michigan Panthers (7-2)

For the Michigan Panthers, the quarterback position has been a revolving door during the 2024 UFL season, but despite several quarterback injuries, the Panthers have found success. In Week 9, Danny Etling completed 12 out of 18 passes for 110 yards and an interception, which led to Bryce Perkins getting his opportunity to lead the Panthers offense. Perkins completed 12 out of 15 passes for 121 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. His running ability set Perkins apart as he picked up 76 yards and two touchdowns on six rushing attempts. The combined quarterback efficiency rating for Etling and Perkins was 106.9.

#5 Reid Sinnett and Nolan Henderson, Houston Roughnecks (1-8)

The combination of Reid Sinnett and Nolan Henderson put the Roughnecks in position to upset the Michigan Panthers. Unfortunately, they came up short, losing 22 to 26. Sinnett completed 6 out of 11 passes for 57 yards, and Henderson completed 7 out of 18 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns while also running for 66 yards on nine carries. The combined quarterback efficiency rating for Sinnett and Henderson was 121.9.

#6 Adrian Martinez, Birmingham Stallions (8-1)

After several weeks of playing exceptional football for the Birmingham Stallions, Adrian Martinez experienced some challenges against the San Antonio Brahmas defense. In a rare losing effort for the Stallions, Martinez completed 18 out of 32 passes for 211 yards, resulting in one touchdown and two interceptions. Martinez also ran for 56 yards on five carries. The quarterback efficiency rating for Martinez against the Brahmas was 115.7.

#7 Josh Love and Troy Williams, Memphis Showboats (1-8)

Quarterbacks for the Memphis Showboats have struggled to find consistency while facing heavy weekly pressure from opposing defenses. In Week 9, Josh Love completed 9 out of 14 passes for 105 yards, resulting in a touchdown and a rushing touchdown, but he also threw two interceptions. Troy Williams also stepped in to lead the Showboats offense, completing 4 out of 7 passes for 15 yards. The combined quarterback efficiency rating for Love and Williams was 122.3.

#8 Manny Wilkins, Saint Louis Battlehawks (6-3)

For the second week in a row, Manny Wilkins stepped in for injured quarterback AJ McCarron to lead the Battlehawks offense. Wilkins completed 18 out of 32 passes for 179 yards, resulting in a touchdown, and Wilkins also added two rushing touchdowns. Unfortunately, Wilkins threw three interceptions against the Renegades, which allowed Arlington to hand Saint Louis their 3rd loss of the season. Wilkins ended the game with a quarterback efficiency rating of 94.8.
