The Cowboys 2024 season has not gone as plan, however one former USFL MVP has taken full advantage of the his increased opportunity. After a 34-10 loss to the Texans on Monday Night Football, Turpin surpassed a milestone for the 1st time in his career, and possibly the first time in the Modern Era of Spring Football. After a 16 yard reception, in the final seconds of the 4th Quarter, Turpin surpassed 1,000 All-Purpose Yards for the season.

While former Seattle Dragons RB Godwin Igwebuike (875 in 2021 for DET), and D’Ernest Johnson (810 in 2021 for CLE), both have had flashes of their skill set showcased for NFL teams, it does appear that Turpin seems to be utilizing the Cowboys misfortune to his advantage for his long-term future.

Turpin has already surpassed career highs in Receptions, Receiving Yards, Kick Return Yards and Yards from scrimmage in 2024. He’s on pace to surpass his Punt Return yards, and could easily eclipse his season high for touchdowns as he’s at Three with Seven games remaining for Dallas. With Dallas finding their way out of the playoff run, and Turpin in a contract year it is extremely plausible to see Turpin expand his role the final stretch of the season.

Earlier in the year, we talked about the importance of Turpin’s success not only for himself but the brand of Spring Football as a whole. With teams like the Dallas Cowboys, heavily investing in Spring Football the spotlight for players like Turpin only grows. The success of Turpin has not helped his career but also put a spotlight on Brandon Aubrey the former Birmingham Stallion who is easily one of the best Kickers in the NFL, along with Josh Butler a former Michigan Panther who this past Monday was signed to the Cowboys 53-Man roster, and is the teams starting Nickel.

With 2455 All-Purpose Yards over the last Three years, along with 7 Touchdowns, Turpin enters the final stretch of his career with an opportunity to cement not only his future in the NFL, but the financial future of his family. The road for Turpin hasn’t always been easy but the former New Jersey General continues to cement his legacy in the new era of Spring Football, and right now appears to be the first player in the modern era to eclipse 1000 All-Purpose Yards.
