With the 2025 UFL season inching closer, the Arlington Renegades, who finished sixth in the UFL last year with a disappointing 3-7 record, are looking to rebound. They finished the season strong, winning their last two games. Arlington is determined to improve their standing in the league as the new season approaches. Here are five players that can help Arlington rebound in the 2025 season.
Luis Perez, Quarterback
As we all know, the quarterback is the linchpin of any football team. Luis Perez, the powerhouse who led the Renegades to victory last season, will again be at the helm. His stellar performance, topping the UFL charts with 2,307 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, was a testament to his skill. With just four interceptions, Perez’s precision was unmatched. We can all look forward to another season of solid numbers from him and, hopefully, more wins for the Renegades.
Kalen Ballage, Running back
Kalen Ballage could be the starting running back for the Renegades. He played in the XFL in 2023 with the San Antonio Brahams, rushing for 149 yards before a mid-season injury. This injury, while a setback, does not diminish his potential contribution. Ballage also has NFL experience, having rushed for 665 yards with the Miami Dolphins. Standing at 6’2 and weighing 231 pounds, Ballage’s physical running style could significantly improve the Renegades’ rushing attack this year.
Deontay Burnett, Slot Receiver
While Tyler Vaughns and Sai Cannella led the Renegades in receiving, the quarterback’s best ally is often a slot receiver. Deontay Burnett, the Renegades’ slot receiver, is a prime example of this. His 33 receptions for 306 yards and three touchdowns, with 22 resulting in first downs, highlight his knack for getting open in crucial moments. Burnett’s ability to find openings when it matters most will undoubtedly be a game-changer for the Renegades in the future.
Donald Payne, Linebacker
Donald Payne, who led the Renegades with 63 tackles last year and had two sacks, is a seasoned linebacker. While he is advancing in age, his experience and football intelligence make him a valuable asset. The Renegades’ defensive performance last year, giving up 4.6 yards per game and 12 rushing touchdowns, indicates a need for improvement. Payne’s continued contribution could be instrumental in addressing this issue.
Kyron Barrs, Nose tackle
Kyron Barrs, who signed with the Renegades in December, brings some size to the defensive line. He played for the USC Trojans in 2023, starting seven of 13 games. Barrs then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks, demonstrating his potential at the professional level. Standing at 6’1 and weighing 301 pounds, Barrs’ role as a nose tackle will be crucial in bolstering the Renegades’ defense.
