In one of the more successful USFL to NFL stories, Khalil Davis is announcing his retirement from professional football. The USFL and NFL champion calls it quits completing Five professional seasons, after coming out of Nebraska in 2020 as a 6th round pick.

Davis is among many Defensive Linemen who successfully transitioned to the NFL, appearing in 27 games (30 total), after his 2023 season with the Birmingham Stallions. Davis joined the NFL, originally in 2020, having stints with the Bucs, Colts, Steelers, and Rams, before joining the USFL in March of 2023.

Davis would become one of the few spring football players to earn a Spring Football Championship (2023), and a NFL Championship (2020). Davis’ best season in the NFL came in 2023, when he became a staple of the Texans Defensive Line rotation appearing in 15 games recording 32 tackles, 2.0 sacks, in addition to totaling 6 tackles in the postseason. In addition to his success on the field Davis earned approx. 2.6 million dollars in his two seasons in the NFL with the Texans, and 49ers.

Davis’ career though short does end up being a success in the Spring Football universe. The Nebraska alum was able to earn over 2.5 million dollars (3.8 career), play significant snaps while also strengthening the brand of Spring Football players in the NFL. Last year the 2023 class of spring football players earn approx. 5 million dollars with Spring Football players earning collectively over 50 million. Davis’ brother Carlos remains in the UFL still playing with the Birmingham Stallions.
