The 2025 season is off to an interesting start.
The early-season results make it feel like anything is possible.
- The defending champion Birmingham Stallions lost in week 1.
- The San Antonio Brahmas, the other finalists, are winless and struggling.
- The Arlington Renegades, who were 3–7 last season, have a chance to start the season 3–0.
Week three kicks off with an interesting game between the Renegades and the Stallions.
Arlington Renegades
The Renegades season has been a success so far.
They started the season with an impressive 33–9 win over the San Antonio Brahmas.
Last week they won a hard-fought game over the Houston Roughecks 11–9.
They are also relatively healthy heading into the game. WR David Durden is the only player missing the game due to injury (groin).
While the Renegades have looked good, it’s worth mentioning that they have yet to beat a team with a win. A victory over the defending champs would be a huge feather in their cap.
It would also help them match their win total from last year (3–7).
Birmingham Stallions
The stallions are 1–1 after a tough loss to DC and a win over Michigan.
This week’s injury report has been a whirlwind of bad news for the Stallions.
Starting QB Alex McGough is not only out for the game, but he’s also going on IR.
“With Alex right now, he’s out with a shoulder. He will not play this week, we’re not real sure how long that’s going to be. But, I think it’s going to be an IR situation, it’s going to be a number of weeks.” Coach Holtz
Matt Corral will take over as the starter, and Case Cookus will take over as QB2. They also signed former New York Jet Andrew Peasley to fill out the depth at the QB position.
In another surprising blow, Deon Cain is out for the game as well. He missed the entire week for personal reasons. Not only has he been making plays at receiver, but his kick returns have been huge in setting up good starting field position.
It will be interesting to see which Stallions show up. Will we see the team that lost to the Defenders? Or the team that beat a solid Panthers team?
