The Green Bay Packers signed running back Nate McCrary on Tuesday. McCrary played for the Michigan Panthers in the UFL in 2024.
RB Nate McCrary – Saginaw Valley State (6’0, 213 lbs, 25 y/o)
McCrary is from Muskegon, Michigan, and had a chance to represent his home state this past UFL season as he suited up for the Michigan Panthers. His utilization increased late in the season following the injury to Wes Hills. Over the regular season, he rushed 16 times for 60 yards (3.75 yards per carry) and a touchdown. 14 of his 16 carries came in the final 2 games. While the yards per carry is not eye-popping on paper, he looked very good on the eye test as oftentimes the first point of contact was close to the line of scrimmage or in the backfield. He also contributed on special teams returning 5 kickoffs for an average of 22 yards per return.
McCrary was impressive in the playoffs as he rushed for a season-high of 5.64 yards per carry on 11 rushes for 62 yards in the USFL Division Championship which was against a strong defense in the Birmingham Stallions.
McCrary is no stranger to the Green Bay Packers organization as he was signed by the Packers on August 7 2023 although he was waived during final roster cuts. He initially entered the NFL in 2021 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens and has since spent time with the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns. He has played in 9 total NFL preseason games which saw him rush 66 times for 246 yards, 3.73 yards per carry.
He played his college ball in the GLIAC with Saginaw Valley State. He played in 33 games with the program over 3 years and rushed 377 times for 1,889 yards and 28 touchdowns, 5 yards per carry. In 2019 he started in all 1 games and rushed 167 times for 1,060 yards and 10 touchdowns, 6.3 yards per carry.
