Tryouts
Tuesday was a busy day for spring football alum tryouts. In searching for a replacement for the injured Spencer Shrader, the Indianapolis Colts tried out K Lucas Havrisik (Renegades) and K Harrison Mevis (Stallions). They ended up going with NFL veteran Michael Badgley.
The New England Patriots were similarly searching for an injury replacement at running back after losing Antonio Gibson to a torn ACL. Among the backs they had in on Tuesday were RB Jashaun Corbin (Brahmas) and RB Deon Jackson (Defenders).
Continuing to set records for the number of tryouts he’s taken is CB Keenan Isaac (Roughnecks), who worked out for his seventh team in 2025, the New Orleans Saints. Two spring league players from days gone by were in San Francisco to try out for the 49ers: DT Bruce Hector (Renegades) and LB Jonathan Garvin (Stallions). Both were in camp with the 49ers this summer.
Havrisik was back at it on Thursday, one of two kickers brought in by the Green Bay Packers with Brandon McManus potentially missing this weekend’s game due to injury.
Transactions
In addition to the tryouts on Tuesday, several transactions involved spring league players. After being signed a week ago, G Michael Dunn (Dragons) was released from the practice squad of the Los Angeles Chargers. Also released from his team’s practice squad: LB Garrett Nelson (Brahmas) by New Orleans.
RB Jashaun Corbin (Brahmas) won the running back derby on Tuesday and signed with the Patriots’ practice squad. Another tryout-to-signing success story, DT Bruce Hector (Renegades) inked a practice squad deal with the 49ers on Wednesday.
Two UFL 2025 players were signed to active rosters on Saturday: CB Nick Whiteside (Battlehawks) was one of several practice squad promotions made by the Detroit Lions, just 10 days after he signed to the practice squad. And K Lucas Havrisik (Renegades) won the kicking battle on Thursday in Green Bay, earning a Saturday signing and the opportunity to kick on Sunday.
XFL
*Baltimore’s offense has been circling the drain without QB Lamar Jackson, culminating in just three points scored against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon. Somehow LS Nick Moore (TB Vipers) only had to snap on one punt in addition to the one field goal.
*Though he started off the week with a limited practice on Wednesday due to a quad injury, Miami Dolphins S Elijah Campbell (Defenders) was downgraded to “did not practice” the next two days, rendering him inactive on Sunday, the first game he has missed since 2023.
*For the Pittsburgh Steelers, LS Christian Kuntz (Renegades) snapped on all punts and kicks.
*Just two punts were all the Green Bay Packers needed out of P Daniel Whelan (Defenders) against Cincinnati. He kicked twice for 91 yards, a gross average of 45.5 yards and a net of 39.0. He landed one punt inside the 20.
*It was looking for a while like a blocked 37-yard field goal attempt off the foot of K Parker Romo (Brahmas) could come back to haunt Atlanta on Monday night. The block was in large part due to the low trajectory Romo got on the kick. However, he came back to redeem himself with a 33-yarder late in the fourth as Atlanta took a two-possession lead over Buffalo with less than two minutes remaining.
*After practicing in full on Wednesday, DT LaCale London (Battlehawks) showed up with a limited practice on Thursday due to a triceps injury and was downgraded to out on Friday. Due to the injury, he was inactive on Monday for the Falcons.
*Snapping on the game-winning field goal by new kicker Jake Moody for Chicago was LS Scott Daly (NY Guardians).
*A reserve along Tampa’s defensive line, DT C.J. Brewer (Roughnecks) grabbed his first two tackles of the season (both assisted), along with half a sack. He split it with edge rusher Haason Reddick in taking down San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones in the fourth quarter. Those stats came on just 11 snaps (16% of defensive plays).
*QB Josh Johnson (Wildcats) was inactive as Washington’s third quarterback in the second of the Monday night doubleheader.
USFL
*One of the most active snappers in punt coverage, LS Mitchell Fraboni (Maulers) made another tackle on that unit for the Denver Broncos.
*Coming up just short against Carolina were the Dallas Cowboys. For his part, K Brandon Aubrey (Stallions) made field goals of 23 and 28 yards, as well as all three extra points.
*Missing his second game in a row with a foot injury was Dallas WR KaVontae Turpin (Generals). He did not practice all week.
*Carolina did an excellent job containing Dallas’s dangerous run game, and DE LaBryan Ray (Stars) played a part in that with two tackles, though one came in the pass game. Ray played 27% of defensive snaps, as well as five total plays on special teams.
UFL
*All of the scoring on Sunday for the Cleveland Browns came courtesy of the leg of K Andre Szmyt (Battlehawks). He was three-for-three on field goals, good from 31, 32, and a long of 53.
*LS Rex Sunahara (Brahmas) continued his work long snapping for Cleveland in week six, without any notable issues.
*It was a struggle overseas for LB Dondrea Tillman (Stallions), despite Denver’s win over the New York Jets. Tillman whiffed on a kick return tackle, allowing returner Kene Nwangwu to cover 72 yards and put the Jets into scoring position. Then, with QB Justin Fields stopped one-on-one in the backfield for a loss, Fields juked out Tillman to gain positive yardage. Tillman was credited with an assisted tackle on special teams, where he played 52% of the snaps as compared to 26% on defense.
*Veteran K Lucas Havrisik (Renegades) went from substitute teaching to kicking with the Packers on Sunday. That’s after a standout 2025 campaign with the Arlington Renegades of the UFL. Havrisik made field goals of 43 and 39 yards and was good on all three extra point attempts. He won’t be a threat to replace Brandon McManus so Havrisik is here for the short-term, trying to prove to one of the other 31 teams that he can be called upon to perform when the need arises.
*Detroit’s offense was stymied by Kansas City, leading to little work for K Jake Bates (Panthers). Bates opened the scoring with a 28-yard field goal. He banged through two extra points as well.
*Again the number two quarterback behind Mac Jones with Brock Purdy still recovering from injury, QB Adrian Martinez (Stallions) is once again looking for an opportunity to play in his first NFL regular season game.
*With Craig Reynolds acting as the main kickoff return man this week, RB Jacob Saylors (Battlehawks) did not see as much action with the ball as usual. Saylors didn’t play on offense but did participate in 64% of special teams snaps for the Lions.
*Joining Havrisik in playing his first game since 2023 was CB Nick Whiteside (Battlehawks) with the Lions. Whiteside played seven special teams snaps in the team’s Sunday night loss to Kansas City.
*In his first practice squad elevation of the year, WR Brandon Smith (Defenders) got a trip to England out of it. He did not record any stats but played 41% of the special teams snaps.
Bye: Minnesota Vikings DE Jalen Redmond (Renegades)
