The Arlington Renegades of the United Football League (UFL) have bolstered their defense by signing safety Jamal Carter, a former Miami Hurricane standout and NFL player.

High School Beginnings and Collegiate Success

Carter’s journey began at Miami Southridge High School in Florida. In high school, Carter was a bonafide superstar, including his senior year, 2012, saw him amass 73 tackles and an interception, foreshadowing his collegiate success.

Following his time in college, he remained in Florida, playing for the University of Miami, where he played from 2013 to 2016, participating in 50 games with 15 starts. In Carter’s college career, he totaled 165 tackles, two interceptions, and ten passes defensed. His senior year he led the team with 85 tackles.

Overcoming NFL Draft Predictions

Despite a college career filled with notable performances, Carter faced skepticism from NFL scouts. He came into that class as the 22nd-best strong safety rated in the 2017 NFL Draft; he was expected to go undrafted due to concerns about his transition to the professional level.

Then, going undrafted in 2017, Carter signed with the Denver Broncos, proving his worth by leading the team in preseason tackles and making the final roster. Very tough to do as a UDFA. In his rookie season, he featured 11 combined tackles and one pass deflection across 16 games. However, an injury in 2018 and subsequent waivers led Carter through various teams, including the Atlanta Falcons and the Arizona Cardinals.

Carter’s journey took him to the Tennessee Titans and finally to the UFL, where the Arlington Renegades selected him in the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft. He has remained there since.

A New Chapter with the Renegades

The Arlington Renegades’ decision to sign Jamal Carter speaks about their commitment to strengthening their defense with experienced, talented players. After seeing the last round of cuts, you know that Arlington is attempting to enhance this defense with more veteran NFL-caliber talent. Carter’s NFL experience and collegiate success make him a valuable asset to the Renegades’ roster.
