The Michigan Panthers re-signed defensive tackle Walter Palmore on Wednesday per the UFL Communications Department. Palmore was highly effective as a run-stopper as well as in the pass rush for Michigan last season and is now slated to play his 4th year with the team.
Palmore was recently with the Carolina Panthers where he appeared in 2 preseason games and recorded a solo tackle, 7 assisted tackles, and defended a pass. He was waived by Carolina during final cuts before briefly spending time on the practice squad.
Over the 2024 UFL season, Palmore recorded 10 solo tackles, 8 assisted tackles, and a sack. He added 2 solo tackles and an assisted tackle in the playoff loss to Birmingham. According to Pro Football Focus, he had the third most total pressures generated among interior defensive linemen at 19. He had the 2nd highest defensive grade among his positional group and was one of 2 players to have a grade over 80 in both pass rush and run defense from PFF.
Palmore played for the Michigan Panthers in the 2022 and 2023 USFL seasons as well which saw him start 13 out of 20 games. He recorded 23 solo tackles and 20 assisted tackles over that span.
Strong play from the defensive line was a major factor in Michigan’s success last season. Bringing back Walter Palmore is a major move to ensure that that area continues to be one of strength.
