Bryce Perkins – Virginia (27 y/o, 6’3, 214)

Bryce Perkins started his collegiate career with Arizona State where he redshirted in 2015 and missed the majority of the 2016 season due to a broken neck in a training session.

Perkins did not let his injury derail his career and worked his way back to Division 1 through Juco ball. In 2017 he played in 10 games for Arizona Western Junior College where he completed 114 of his 180 passes for 1,311 yards and 7 touchdowns with 8 interceptions. He added 353 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. He helped lead his team to the NJCAA National Championship where they lost a close game 28-31

Perkins played for Virginia in 2018 and 2019 where completed 545 of his 845 passes (64.5%) with 47 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He rushed 439 times for 1,692 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns. After just 2 seasons he left the program as the all-time leader in total offensive yards at 7,910 yards although he was later surpassed by quarterback Brennan Armstrong.

Perkins was recognized for his quality of play at Virginia being named the recipient of the Dudley Award in 2018 and 2019 which is presented to the top NCAA football player in the Commonwealth of Virginia Annually. He was an All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2018 and 2nd Team All-ACC in 2019.

He signed with the LA Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2020 where he spent much of the next 3 seasons on the practice squad. In 2022 he played in 5 games for the Rams including 1 start. He has completed 19 of his 34 passes in NFL regular season games for 161 yards and a touchdown with 2 interceptions. He added 90 yards on the ground on 19 rushes.

Perkins has also played in 6 NFL preseason games where he has completed 91 of his 140 passes (65%) for 850 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also has 182 rushing yards in the preseason and 2 rushing touchdowns.

With E.J. Perry now on IR, Danny Etling will be the expected starter this weekend. Perry left the game late last week with what appeared to be a leg injury.
