The 2025 Birmingham Stallions “disappointed” this past season despite a 7-3 record and playoff berth. The team that’s won 3 out of 4 championships since the franchise’s revival, leaving expectations high each season. The Stallions had a little bit of movement during the 2025 offseason however, with Paul Roell now the General Manager, Skip Holtz has a new partner in crime going into year 5.

Harrison Mevis and Ronnie Perkins have both had cups of tea on NFL practice squads but were released during the season. With UFL free agency in full swing, the Stallions currently have 16 players from the 2025 squad free to sign with the other seven UFL teams. While Stallions GM Paul Roell is in his first official offseason at the helm several key contributors of the past several championship teams remain unsigned. It is worth noting only one free agent has left Birmingham for another team.
The Matt Corral Departure:
The Stallions have had plenty of Quarterbacks join their team in 2025 and one Quarterback is looking for greener pastures. Former 2022 3rd round pick Matt Corral signed with the “Michigan Panthers” and now awaits to see which new franchise he’ll attempt to lead in 2026. Corral has started five games for Birmingham in his two seasons owning a 5-0 record throwing for 1,142 yards and 6 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. With Corral joining the relocated “Panthers” franchise he’ll await to see if the team opts to bring back Bryce Perkins for 2026 or if Corral can finally get a full ten games to showcase his skillset.
Who is coming back on Offense:
Quarterback:
The Stallions have seen J’Mar Smith and Andrew Peasley both sign their LOI’s for 2026. Smith who was thought to be retired and working at Dunkin Donuts came back to Birmingham after an injury to Matt Corral landed him on the injured reserve. Peasley was an injury replacement as well for Birmingham after 2023 USFL MVP Alex McGough injured himself in week one of the 2025 UFL season. Both Smith and Peasley both saw playing time as Smith was the Stallions starter for the remainder of the season. The Stallions also have Case Cookus and Alex McGough under contract possibly rounding out their QB room if either veteran opts to continue their career.
Running Back:
The Stallions have brought back C.J. Marable (5th year) and Ricky Person (4th year) along with newcomer 2022 3rd round pick Tyrion Davis-Price. Marable and Person have been a consistent 1-2 punch for Birmingham earning championships along with NFL opportunities along the way. Tyrion Davis-Price was recently released by the Packers during final cuts and could easily find another pathway to the NFL in the UFL.
Wide Receiver:
So far the Stallions have signed five receivers this off-season with Jalen Camp (2nd year) and Marlon Williams (5th year) being the only returners on the roster so far. GM Paul Roell signed 2024 UFL draft pick Ahmarean Brown as well as recent NFL castoffs Devin Carter and Julian Hicks. The Stallions may not have much wiggle room right now to bring in another wide receiver as the team has usually kept six on their roster, and could be waiting for free agent Deon Cain to make a decision.
Tight End:
Jordan Thomas opts for his 4th year in spring football and his 9th year in professional football as a whole. Thomas has earned two NFL contracts since joining the XFL/UFL and has been a key blocker/physical presence for both the Orlando Guardians/Birmingham Stallions since 2023. The Stallions have not yet signed any additional Tight Ends so far.
Offensive Line:
Cole Schneider (4th Year), Grant Miller (2nd year), and Deonte Brown (3rd year) all have announced their intention to return to Birmingham for the 2026 season. GM Paul Roell has brought in two new players Earl Bostick Jr (a 2023 Philadelphia Stars draft pick), and Chasen Hines both of which have spent time on NFL practice squads.
Who is coming back on Defense:
Defensive Line:
The Stallions so far have signed two returners from the 2025 in Steve Linton (2nd year) and Carlos Davis (3rd year). The Stallions also managed to convince Khalil Davis who reportedly retired earlier this year to play a season with his brother Carlos. Khalil spent a season with Birmingham a championship with the team that translated into two seasons with NFL teams. Roell also managed to snag Shakel Brown who after being released by the Roughnecks during the early part of the season, found himself with stints joining the Edmonton Elks (CFL), and San Francisco 49ers before signing with Birmingham earlier this month.
Linebacker:
The Stallions have opted to bring back DeMarquis Gates who is in his 4th season in Birmingham after spending 2022 and 2023 with the Bears. Gates will be entering his 9th season of professional football, which includes stints in the NFL, AAF, XFL, TSL. CFL. USFL, and UFL. Gates has managed to record over 240 tackles across five spring football seasons. The Stallions also managed to “poach” Jordan Williams who was a free agent after three seasons with the San Antonio Brahmas. Williams earned All-XFL honors in 2023 and has amassed 233 career tackles in spring football. The last Stallions linebacker to be signed is Michael Barrett who was signed during the first week of October. Barrett was recently with the Raiders during camp getting released during final cuts.
Secondary:
Nevelle Clarke (4th year), Kenny Robinson (3rd year), and JoJo Tillery (5th year) all opt to return for 2026 giving Birmingham a strong veteran presence in the defensive backfield. Robinson made waves after signing with the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks in an effort to support his family, which translated into him getting drafted by the Carolina Panthers after the XFL season. Clarke spent two seasons with the New Orleans Breakers before signing with Birmingham for the 2024 season. Tillery has been with the Stallions since their return in 2022. He’s earned three championships and recorded 107 tackles, 3 interceptions, along with 1.5 sacks in his time with the Stallions.
Special Teams:
So far 5th year Stallion Colby Wadman has opted to return for 2026. The Stallions are without a kicker under contract with Harrison Mevis still in the NFL cycle. The Stallions also have yet to sign a long snapper so far this off-season, possibly gauging the interest of Gage King, Ryan Langen, and William Mote.
Final Thoughts:
The Stallions have currently 27 players under contract with LOI’s signed for the 2026 season. With UFL rosters expected to be between 60 and 70 players for training camp the Stallions still have plenty of additional pieces to add to their team. The Stallions when 7-3 last season losing to the Michigan Panthers in the USFL conference championship game.
