After completing their 4th season in franchise history, the “Arlington” Renegades have went back to their roots and are going back to “Dallas”. Despite winning a championship in 2023, the Renegades have yet to put together a regular season with a record over .500, going 5-5 in 2025. The Renegades haven’t been the most active team during the 2025-26 UFL offseason, however, have seen a bit of player movement so far.

The Renegades saw seven players this signing cycle earn an NFL opportunity. Currently Sal Cannella, Jayden Price, Ricky Lee, and Lucas Harvisik remain rostered on NFL teams. Kyon Barrs has had a stint on the Cardinals practice squad while Seth Green and Charlie Thomas III were relaesed during training camp. Harvisik has appeared in two games for the Packers, setting the record for longest Field Goal in the franchise’s history.

With UFL free agency in full swing, the Renegades currently have 14 players from the 2025 squad free to sign with the other seven UFL teams. The Renegades who host one of the oldest rosters in the UFL have continued to maintain their “core” players through Bob Stoops tenure.

Early Retirement and Departures:

The Renegades have seen two key pieces retire in Garrett McGhin and backup QB Holton Ahlers. McGhin has been with the team since 2023, providing a versatile piece on the offensive line, while Ahlers has been in the Renegades system for the past two season.

The team has also seen the WR Isaiah Winstead leave for the CFL joining LB Caleb Johnson as well in Canada. The team may need a new Co-Defensive Coordinator as Jay Hayes is currently the Defensive Line coach at Arkansas under interim Head Coach Bobby Petrino.

Who is coming back on Offense:

Quarterback:

The Renegades are set to return Luis Perez and unknown Luke Lehnen. Perez has been one of the most consistent figures in spring football nearing almost 10,000 passing yards and 60 TDs. Lehnen spent the 2025 season as a reserve QB and hopes to finally make his professional debut in his 2nd season. The Renegades will be without Holton Ahlers who retired after the season.

Running Back:

The Renegades have resigned Dae Dae Hunter for his 3rd season in professional football. Hunter saw an expanded role in 2025 rushing for over 400 yards due to injuries. Kalen Ballage and Tony Jones jr. remain unsigned yet under contract for the 2026 season as well. A big question is De’Veon Smith who is a free agent, however essentially came out of retirement to join the team as a short yardage option. Smith was with the team during training camp as a coach with the running backs.

Wide Receiver:

The Renegades brought in one of their three newcomers in Jontre Kirklin whose amassed over 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards through 25 games with the Roughnecks and Brahmas, while also earning NFL contracts in 2023 and 2024. Coming back for year four is Javonta Payton who’s amassed over 800 receiving yards in 27 games. Still under contract is Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi who spent most of the year inactive with injury. The Renegades currently Tyler Vaughns, LuJuan Winningham, and Deontay Burnett as free agents right now.

Offensive Line:

The 2nd of newly signed free agents is Dohnovan West fresh off his NFL stint after spending two seasons with the Battlehawks. After starting 10 games for the XFL’s Vegas Vipers, West has been a reserve offensive lineman and has a chance to replace the newly retired Garrett McGhin. Marcus Minor returns for his 3rd season with the team after working out for several NFL teams.

Tight End:

It’s extremely possible that the Renegades (and Spring Football) in 2026 doesn’t include Sal Cannella who is current rostered with the Cleveland Browns. Set to come back is Seth Green who returns for his 3rd season and is primed to be the teams TE1. Curtis Hodges remains unsigned and has his rights with the team.

Who is coming back on Defense:

Defensive Line:

Ikenna Enechukwu (2nd year), LaRon Stokes (3rd year), Willie Taylor III (4th year), and Chris Odom (2nd year) all return with for the 2026. The group is set to be anchored by Odom who goes into his 8th year of professional football (NFL, AAF, CFL, USFL, UFL) and his 5th season in spring football where he holds 25.0 sacks.

Linebacker:

Making his way from the UFL Showcase is Brandon Smith out of Penn State who turned heads at the Atlanta Showcase. Also signed for 2026 is Donald Payne who’ll be going into his 5th year in spring football, and 9th season as a professional. Payne is one of spring football’s leading tackles with 307, and 76 in the NFL.

Defensive Backs:

The Renegades have not signed any defensive backs so far this offseason.

Specialist:

Long Snapper Antonio Ortiz returns for his fourth season with the Renegades. Ortiz received several workouts this NFL season after the UFL season.

Final Thoughts:

The Renegades currently have 15 players under contract with LOI’s signed for the 2026 season. With UFL rosters expected to be between 60 and 70 players for training camp the Renegades still have plenty of additional pieces to add to their team. The Renegades went 5-5 in 2025 missing the playoffs under Bob Stoops for the 2nd consecutive season.
