The Birmingham Stallions signed quarterback Matt Corral for the 2025 United Football League season. This move follows the Stallions’ championship season where Corral stepped up in crucial moments.
The 2024 season saw Corral share quarterback responsibilities through the opening weeks. He earned starts in three of the first four games, showing skill both through the air and on the ground. His stats included 494 passing yards with two scores, plus 104 rushing yards. Eventually the started QB role were taken over by eventual UFL MVP Adrian Martinez.
The season’s turning point came during the UFL Conference Championship matchup. With Birmingham trailing Michigan, Corral stepped in during the third quarter. His precise passing – 120 yards and two touchdowns – sparked the 31-18 win that sent the Stallions to Championship Weekend.
Before joining Birmingham, Corral spent time with three NFL teams. His most recent NFL action came in Minnesota’s 2024 preseason before finding his place with the Stallions.
The Stallions’ quarterback situation shifts heading into 2025. General Manager Zach Potter’s roster now features Corral and J’Mar Smith, while previous starter Adrian Martinez continues his NFL career with the Jets. Former USFL standout Alex McGough also remains in the NFL playing wide receiver for the Green Bay Packers.
Corral’s football foundation stems from his time at Ole Miss, where he accumulated over 8,000 passing yards. His final college season showed his development – 3,349 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, complemented by 614 yards rushing.
The UFL launches its second season on March 28, following last year’s merger between the XFL and USFL. Birmingham starts their title defense with Corral positioned to build on his championship experience and the clear #1 going into the season.
