Volatility and spring football go hand in hand, and the first several weeks of the 2025 UFL season has proved to be exactly the case. Between injuries, poor play and an opportunity many teams in week 5 are going to their 2nd and 3rd Quarterback options in hopes of making a playoff push.

Memphis Showboats:

With Jim Turner fully embedded as the Showboats Head Coach, the first order of business was installing Dresser Winn as QB1. Winn was a late signing by Memphis upon the release of Quintin Dormady and will now make his professional debut for the Showboats in week 5 against the Birmingham Stallions. Turner also relayed that E.J. Perry will be QB2.

Stats:

E.J. Perry 49/81 503 yds 2 TD 5 INT 17 Car 69 Yds 1 TD

Troy Williams 16/27 180 yds 0 TD 1 INT 5 Car 39 Yds 1 TD

Dresser Winn N/A

Birmingham Stallions:

Case Cookus is primed to return to the field due to injury to Matt Corral this past week. Cookus has been a main stay in spring football dating back to 2022 with the Philadelphia Stars. Cookus is no rookie as the NAU alum has had stints with several NFL teams, the Edmonton Elks, in addition for passing for over 4500 yards, and 35 TDs for the Showboats, Stars, and Stallions collectively. Cookus’ heroics were on full display last week, whether it was blocking downfield for C.J. Marable, or connecting with Davion Davis to put the Stallions in field goal range. He’ll be backed up by Andrew Peasley who has been the 5th QB Birmingham has had to roster in 2025. Matt Corral despite not practicing this whole is scheduled to be the inactive emergency QB for week 5.

Stats:

Alex McGough 10/24 89 Yds 1 TD 1 Int 9 Car 85 Yds

Matt Corral 51/95 648 Yds 4 TD 4 Int 17 Car 91 Yds

Case Cookus 1/2 36 Yds 0 TD 0 Int 1 Car -1 Yds

Andrew Peasley N/A

Houston Roughnecks:

After an empowering performance against the Stallions Head Coach CJ Johnson is making another change at quarterback. Jalan McClendon whose spring career goes back to the LA Wildcats of the XFL 2.0, will be leading the charge for the Houston Roughnecks as they take on the San Antonio Brahmas. McClendon had the Roughnecks offense moving vertically this week, actually pushing the ball downfield on an offensive gameplan that wasn’t reliant on screen passes to Justin Hall. Nolan Henderson currently has been practicing this week however, it has not yet been established if he’ll be QB2 or inactive.

Anthony Brown 27/56 240 Yds 1 TD 3 Int 7 Car 61 Yds

Nolan Henderson 20/36 183 Yds 2 TD 0 Int 9 Car 82 Yds

Jalan McClendon 22/31 236 Yds 0 TD 1 Int 5 Car 17 Yds 1 TD

St. Louis Battlehawks:

After a devasting injury to Manny Wilkins the Battlehawks are rallying behind Max Duggan, in an attempt to play good football. St. Louis has dropped their last two games, and will now look to the former TCU QB in hopes of salvaging their season. St. Louis has brought in Brandon Silvers as well in effort to add experience to a room that just lost their MVP caliber QB. It’s unknown if Silvers is going to be the backup or QB3, but his experience with the team in 2024, does make it possible we could see sooner rather than later. Trae Self who was signed after Chevan Cordiero’s injury also remains on the roster.

Manny Wilkins 45/69 498 Yds 1 TD 3 Int 22 Car 136 Yds 2 TD

Max Duggan 8/18 78 Yds 0 TD 2 Int 17 Car 64 Yds

Trae Self N/A

Brandon Silvers N/A

Chevan Cordiero N/A

As week 5 is set to begin 16 UFL quarterbacks will have been given an opportunity to start with 3 teams starting 3 different QBs due to injury or ineffectiveness. The UFL is a league of opportunity and for many quarterbacks especially since 2019 in the spring football circuity they’ve made the most of their time in the league. For Winn, Duggan, McClendon, and Cookus they’ll have week 5 to showcase their skills in hopes of extending their careers.
