
One of the more underrated transactions of the UFL happened Thursday night, as the Arlington Renegades brought in one of college football’s most proficient Quarterbacks. The Renegades signed Divison-III star Luke Lehnen out of North Central College, amid the news that Lindsey Scott accepting a position as an assistant QB coach with Texas Tech.
Lehnen has been one of college football’s most elite players across all divisions since 2021. Replacing Broc Rutter (who played with the SF 49ers), Lehnen has been a consistent figure for North Central College starting 59 games over Four seasons for the Cardinals going 57-2 as a starter. Lehnen won Two National Championships (2022,2024), Two Gagliardi Trophies (D-III Heisman), with his only Two losses in college coming in National Championship games (2021, 2023).

Over the course of his career at North Central, statistically Lehnen was among college football’s most proficient passers. Lehnen totaled 12,658 passing yards and 162 touchdowns across four seasons against only 23 interceptions to his name, A dual threat quarterback, Lehnen rushed for 3,327 yards and 51 scores across his four-year career.
The Lehnen signing comes as Lindsey Scott Jr. looks to make a full-time transition to Texas Tech as an Asst. Quarterbacks Coach. Scott began his coaching journey in 2023 at Texas State as an Offensive Assistant spending two seasons in San Marcos. Scott has not officially retired yet but is not expected to return to Arlington. Scott appeared in 9 games in 2024 throwing for 48 yards, 1 TD, while rushing for 72 yards and 2 TDs on the ground.
The Renegades go into 2025 with Luis Perez (LOI not signed, but confirmed via social media), Holton Ahlers (2nd year), and now Lehnen. The Chatham, Illinois native is the 1st player of the 2025 Draft Class to be draft eligible for the NFL to sign a contract with the UFL joining players like Kenny Robinson and Harrison Frost who have opted for the same path in their careers. With the UFL looking to be a league of opportunity, giving a “small school” product like Lehnen fits the mold of the type of players the league is trying to give a platform to. The Renegades are set to kickoff week 1 against the San Antonio Brahmas March 29th at 3pm (CT), in hopes of rebounding from their 2024 season.
