The San Antonio Brahmas are close to completing their 2025 training camp 64-man roster. Despite nearly completing the roster, the Brahmas continue to shuffle through the players they acquired during the off-season. Recently, the Brahmas released wide receiver Aaron Nelson and defensive back Tyler Boatwright; they signed both players early in the off-season after their championship game meltdown against the Birmingham Stallions. Moving Nelson and Boatwright created space on the Brahmas training camp roster for the addition of former Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams to their defensive backfield.
In addition to moving Nelson and Boatwright and acquiring Williams, the Brahmas have added a third quarterback to their roster. According to a tweet by UFL Insider James Larsen, the Brahmas have signed former Houston Roughnecks quarterback Jarrett Guarantano.
Guarantano joins a Brahmas quarterback room with former Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond and Brahmas 2024 backup quarterback Kevin Hogan. Coming to the Brahmas gives Guarantano a fresh start in the UFL, which struggled with the Houston Roughnecks during the 2024 UFL. While playing for the Roughnecks, Guarantano played in five games, completing 30 out of 47 passes for 301 yards, 36 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
Brahmas offensive coordinator AJ Smith’s offense could be a good fit for Guarantano, who NFL scouts viewed as a dual-threat quarterback coming out of college. Guarantano spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos for short runs during the 2022 NFL season. In 2024, the Roughnecks attempted to use Guarantano as a pocket passer, which could be a contributing factor to his lack of production for Houston.
The 6’4″, 220-pound Guarantano played five seasons at the University of Tennessee from 2016 until 2020. While playing for the Volunteers, Guarantano played in 41 games and completed 494 passes on 808 attempts for 6,174 yards, 38 touchdown passes, and 17 interceptions. In 2021, Guarantano transferred to Washington State University but only played in three games. While playing for the Cougars, Guarantano completed 33 passes on 49 attempts for 304 yards and threw one touchdown pass, along with three interceptions.
