When the San Antonio Brahmas report to training camp in 2025, prospective Brahmas players will compete for their future on the 2025 San Antonio Brahmas roster for the UFL season. During that time, the Brahmas coaches, led by head coach Wade Phillips, will evaluate players to determine who gets to continue their journey with the Brahmas and who will be cut loose. Before the Brahmas started the evaluation process, inside linebacker Robert Barnes determined that it was time to move on from his pursuits with the Brahmas.

According to a UFL Press Release, Robert Barnes decided to retire from football earlier this week.

Barnes spent the 2024 UFL season with the Brahmas and played 10 games. During the 2024 season, Barnes recorded 11 solo tackles, eight assists, and 19 total tackles. While the Brahmas have one of the best linebacking units in the UFL, Barnes established that he could contribute to the San Antonio defense. The seemingly unexpected retirement decision created a hole in the Brahmas training camp roster.

Safety Christian Jones Gets Opportunity with the Brahmas

In the world of the UFL, when a player’s career direction changes, it creates opportunities for other prospective players. The most recent player to get his opportunity with the San Antonio Brahmas is safety Christian Young. Young comes to the Brahmas with NFL experience and untapped potential.

Young comes to the UFL after spending the last two NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023 and the Green Bay Packers in 2024. The Seahawks signed Young as an undrafted free agent; unfortunately for Young, he was released by Seattle. In 2024, the Green Bay Packers gave Young another NFL opportunity.

Coming to the UFL will give the 6’1″, 221-pound native of Houston, Texas, an opportunity to show that he has what it takes to make an impact in the world of professional football. Young earned the opportunity to chase his professional football dreams while playing at the University of Arizona from 2018 until 2022. While playing for the Wildcats, Young played in 49 games and recorded 102 solo tackles, 80 assists, and .5 quarterback sacks.
