As UFL teams work to finish building their 2025 training camp rosters, change is a fact of life for teams and players alike. Early this off-season, the San Antonio Brahmas and Memphis Showboats made headlines as they executed the first trade of the off-season. In that trade, the Brahmas sent quarterback Quinten Dormady to the Memphis Showboats, and in return, they received edge defender Jordan Ferguson.

Ferguson had established himself as a consistent playmaker for the Memphis Showboats in the USFL and UFL. Looking at the Brahmas depth chart, Ferguson most likely would have started the 2025 season as a starter for the Brahmas defense. That is until Ferguson decided to end his professional football career and retire. A UFL press release has officially announced Jordan Ferguson’s retirement.

During the 2023 USFL season, Jordan Ferguson introduced himself to the world of spring professional football. Ferguson played in four games for the Memphis Showboats in 2023, recording three solo tackles, four assists, and 2.5 quarterback sacks. That four-game performance was enough for Ferguson to draw the interest of the Seattle Seahawks for the 2023 NFL season.

In 2024, Ferguson returned to the Showboats, this time in the UFL. During the 2024 season, Ferguson played in ten games for the Showboats and registered 31 solo tackles, 14 assists, and five quarterback sacks. The Brahmas executed the trade for Ferguson with the expectation that Ferguson could become a key playmaker on one of the top defensive units in the UFL. The feeling was not mutual, which led to Ferguson’s decision to retire.

Before coming to the Memphis Showboats, Ferguson played six seasons with the Middle Tennessee State University Blue Raiders. During his college career, Ferguson played in 58 games, with 114 solo tackles, 100 assists, and 21.5 quarterback sacks. Ferguson also had two interceptions for the Blue Raiders defense.

To play football is an undertaking that you need to be fully committed to. If not you will not only be cheating yourself, but your teammates. Hopefully he knows what he is doing. I’d hoped he was going to have fun this year competing for the title after being one the “good ones” of a poor Showboats defense. Hopefully he has found a bettef opportunity.
