The San Antonio Brahmas have been using their time this week, the second week of training camp, to bring in more talent to add depth and quality to several key positions. Earlier this week, the Brahmas added hybrid wide receiver/tight end Izaiah Gathings and offensive lineman Vitaliy Gurman. Both players bring NFL experience to the Brahmas roster, and if they can survive the first round of roster cuts, they may have a chance to impact the Brahmas during the 2025 UFL season significantly.
UFL teams can never have enough quality players on their offensive line, and offensive coordinator AJ Smith’s offense tends to lean on tight ends as check-down options in the Brahmas passing game. Another position group that the Brahmas can never have enough of is defensive linemen, and today, the Brahmas have added defensive tackle/nose guard Marquan McCall.
UFL Insider James Larsen announced the addition of McCall to the Brahmas roster, and he also announced that the Brahmas have released wide receiver Juwan Green.
Marquan McCall comes to the Brahmas after spending the last three seasons in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders. In 2022, McCall played in 16 games for Carolina, recording seven solo tackles and eight assists. During the 2023 season, McCall was moved to the Panthers practice squad and then released. In 2024, McCall spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The 6’3″, 345-pound McCall is a prototypical nose guard for the Brahmas odd front defense. McCall gives the Brahmas a potential dominant interior gap plugger. If he can make the Brahmas roster, he could make life much easier for the Brahmas linebackers Tavante Beckett and Jordan Williams. McCall played college football at the University of Kentucky from 2018 until 2021, where he played in 40 games and registered 27 solo tackles, 30 assists, and 1.5 sacks. The combined experience in the SEC and the NFL should give McCall a great chance to find a role on the Brahmas defensive front in 2025.
In addition to adding McCall, the Brahmas have released wide receiver Juwan Green. Green spent time with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023. The Brahmas have a loaded, expansive receiver room, so Green earning a spot in the Brahmas rotation was bound to be challenging. The last significant playing time for Green was in 2021 with the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL, where Green played in 10 games and caught 29 passes for 420 yards and six touchdowns.
