For UFL football teams, the most significant improvement that each team will experience will be from their first game to their second game. The San Antonio Brahmas left plenty of room for improvement while getting blown out by the Arlington Renegades in Week 1 of the 2025 UFL season. While it would be tempting for a team to make big roster moves after a performance like the Brahmas last Saturday, San Antonio and head coach Wade Phillips have taken a conservative approach.
While the Brahmas plan on keeping their current personnel and developing them into a better team, they have needed to make a few roster changes. The first change came on Saturday with the absence of inactive quarterback Jarrett Guarantano on the sideline of their game against the Renegades. In his place, quarterback Mike Hohensee Jr. from Northwest Missouri State joined the Brahmas roster to take Guarantano’s place as the Brahmas inactive quarterback.
In addition to changing from Guarantano to Hohensee, the Brahmas have made a series of roster moves at the tight end position. Earlier this week, the UFL announced in a press release that the Brahmas released tight end Izaiah Gathings, which opened a spot on the Brahmas roster. That roster spot is now filled by the Brahmas with the addition of tight end Steven Stilianos, as reported on X by UFL Insider James Larsen.
Stilianos comes to the UFL after spending time with the Tennessee Titans during the 2024 NFL season. Being signed by the Brahmas gives Stilianos another chance to show that he has what it takes to be a contributor at tight end for a professional football team. The Brahmas currently have tight end Alize Mack, who started at tight end for the Brahmas in Week 1 against the Arlington Renegades.
The 6’5″, 251-pound Stilianos will likely be a backup for Mack until he has had a chance to learn offensive coordinator AJ Smith’s offensive playbook and develop chemistry with Brahma’s quarterbacks Kellen Mond and Kevin Hogan. Before starting his professional football career, Stilianos played college football at NCAA FCS Lafayette College from 2018 until 2021. During that time, Stilianos played 29 games for the Leopards, catching 65 passes for 534 yards and five touchdowns.
In 2022, Stilianos transferred to the University of Iowa, where he played in 18 games from 2022 until 2023. While playing for the Hawkeyes, Stilianos caught eight passes for 96 yards. Stilianos’s Big 10 conference experience should allow him to compete for an active role on the Brahmas roster.
