The San Antonio Brahmas have announced their first round of roster cuts from their 2024 training camp roster. The Brahmas started training camp with a 75-player roster, but after the first few weeks of practices and scrimmages, they cut it to 56 players. The UFL announced the Brahmas’ first round of roster cuts with a press release early this afternoon.

The complete list of players cut from the Brahmas roster during the first round of roster cuts is as follows:

  • Placekicker Matt Ammendola
  • Wide Receiver Dieuly Aristilde
  • Wide Receiver Cody Chrest
  • Wide Receiver Kade Warner
  • Defensive End Drew Beesley
  • Defensive End Kwabena Bonsu
  • Defensive End Jason Lewan
  • Defensive End Ryan Mueller
  • Defensive Tackle Trey Botts
  • Offensive Lineman Michael Brown
  • Offensive Lineman Connor Davis
  • Center Evan Heim
  • Inside Linebacker Omari Cobb
  • Outside Linebacker Marvin Pierre
  • Runningback Jaylen Samuels
  • Cornerback Vernon Scott
  • Cornerback Benjie Franklin
  • Cornerback Ryan Lewis
  • Cornerback Mac McCain III

Donald “Deestroying” De La Hayes Survives the Cut

One of the surprising cuts from the Brahmas 75-player roster is NFL veteran kick Matt Ammendola. Ammendola came to the Brahmas after kicking for the Houston Texans in 2023. Placekicker became an intensely competitive position when the Brahmas signed YouTube star Donald “Deestroying” De La Haye as placekicker before the start of training camp.

When De La Haye was signed, many felt it was a PR move due to his 5.78 million subscribers on his Deestroying YouTube channel. By cutting Ammendola, the Brahmas have committed to De La Haye as the 2024 Brahmas placekicker. The 2024 UFL season could be De La Haye’s big break as a successful kicker at the professional level.

Other Surprising Roster Cuts

Along with Ammendola, a few other players cut by the Brahmas cut had been expected to contribute to the Brahmas defense in 2024. The Brahmas cut defensive end, Drew Beesley, one season after he had been an All-XFL player in 2023. Also, TCU defensive back Vernon Scott is a player with Texas ties who has had success in the NFL, but he has been cut from the Brahmas 2024 roster.

Wide Receiver Matt Landers Signed Off Of Waivers

Along with cutting 19 players from the 75-player training camp roster, the Brahmas have signed wide receiver Matt Landers after the Arlington Renegades released him.

Landers started his journey in the UFL as a member of the Renegades’ 75-player training camp roster. Prior to coming to the UFL, Landers spent time in 2023 as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers after being released by the Seahawks.

The 6’4″, 200-pound wide receiver is a native of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and he played college football at the University of Georgia (2017-2020), the University of Toledo (2021), and the University of Arkansas (2022). At Georgia, Landers played in 23 games and caught 12 passes for 132 yards and one touchdown. Landers transferred to Toledo and caught 19 passes for 479 yards and four touchdowns while playing in 11 games. In 2022, Landers transferred to Arkansas, where he played 13 games and caught 47 passes for 901 yards, resulting in eight touchdowns.
