As the San Antonio Brahmas prepare to play the Saint Louis Battlehawks for the right to host the XFL Conference championship game, they have lost one of their most reliable offensive weapons. According to a UFL press release, the Brahmas have moved tight end Cody Latimer to the injured reserve list and re-signed wide receiver Kade Warner to fill the open roster spot.

The Brahmas have been grappling with a recurring issue this 2024 UFL season- injuries to critical players. The most recent blow came when Latimer, a crucial player in their offense, was injured during a play against the Birmingham Stallions. After a remarkable catch, a Stallions defender hit him in a move that raised eyebrows. Latimer, a game-changer for the Brahmas, has now decided to undergo surgery, effectively ending his season in the UFL.

Coming into the 2024 UFL season, the Brahmas selected All-XFL tight end Latimer during the UFL player dispersal process in an effort to boost their offense. Within the Brahmas offense, led by offensive coordinator AJ Smith, Latimer has primarily played as a receiver rather than as a traditional tight end. During the 2024 season, Latimer caught 36 passes for 391 yards and a touchdown.

The loss of Latimer opens the door for Alize Mack to step up and fill in for Latimer’s absence. Mack played for the Brahmas during the 2023 XFL season and was San Antonio’s top tight end before Latimer joined the Brahmas roster. Mack has caught seven passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Wide Receiver Kade Warner Returns to the Brahmas

The loss of Latimer has provided an opportunity for Alize Mack but also opened a roster spot. San Antonio has filled that open roster spot by re-signing wide receiver Kade Warner. Warne was signed by the Brahmas prior to training camp, but he was cut from the Brahmas roster on March 10th. Kade Warner is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner.

Kade Warner is a 6’1″, 201-pound wide receiver from Saint Louis, Missouri. During the 2023 NFL season, Warner spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In December 2023, Warner signed with the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL, but after the XFL-USFL merger, the Brahmas acquired Warner before training camp. Bringing Warner back to the Brahmas offense makes sense since he already knows AJ Smith’s offense system.

Before entering professional football, Warner played college football at the University of Nebraska from 2017 until 2020 and transferred to Kansas State University in 2021. While at Nebraska, Warner played in 22 games and recorded 30 catches for 236 yards. During the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Warner played in 27 games for Kansas State and caught 60 passes for 622 yards and five touchdowns.
