As UFL teams begin making final preparations for training camp in the next few weeks, several teams are still working to complete their 66-player roster. The San Antonio Brahmas are one of the teams that still have roster spots available for training camp. Still, today, the Brahmas used one of their open roster spots to sign an additional offensive lineman.

According to a tweet by UFL Insider James Larsen, the Brahmas have signed offensive lineman Briason Mays.

Based on the Brahmas injury reports from the 2024 UFL season, having too many offensive linemen is not nearly as big of a problem as running out of offensive linemen. During the first five weeks of the Brahmas 2024 season, San Antonio’s injury report quickly filled up with the Brahmas’ top offensive linemen. That left the Brahmas scrambling during the season to replace those linemen to minimize the impact of the injuries.

In 2025, it appears the Brahmas have learned a lesson about not being satisfied with the number of offensive linemen on their roster heading into the season. Briason Mays joins the Brahmas roster after playing center in college at West Virginia University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Currently, the Brahmas have two centers on their depth chart, with Sam Tecklenburg and Alex Pihlstrom returning to the roster.

Competition tends to raise the level of players in a position group, and having a great center is a massive part of the Brahmas’ run-blocking and pass-protection schemes. The Brahmas will most likely not be able to keep all three centers on their roster heading into the regular season, but there is also a chance that if any of these centers are superior to the other offensive linemen, they could be retained to fill an offensive guard position. Mays comes to the UFL after being selected by the Arlington Renegades in the UFL College Draft and spending time with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 6’4″, 295-pound Mays is a native of Bolivar, Tennessee, and he has the prototypical frame of a center at any level of professional football. From 2018 until 2020, Mays played college football at West Virginia University and appeared in 15 games, starting 11 of them. Mays then transferred to Southern Mississippi, where he played in 33 games for the Golden Eagles from 2021 until 2023, starting in 25 of them.
