As the San Antonio Brahmas prepare for the 2025 UFL season while in training camp, the Brahmas coaching staff and front office continue to evaluate players and add new prospective playmakers. Last week, the Brahmas decided to cut four players at the end of the first week of training camp. By making those cuts early in the player evaluation process, the Brahmas have given themselves flexibility with their roster. An example of that flexibility is the Brahmas signing defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman and wide receiver Kawaan Baker.

The Brahmas have started the second week of training camp by bringing in new players who could end up being significant playmakers in 2025. They could also be fillers for a training camp roster with multiple holes to fill. Whether these new players are potential impact players or fillers will become apparent by the end of the week, but the players added recently definitely have the potential to be significant upgrades to the Brahmas’ offense.

According to a press release by the UFL, the Brahmas have signed tight end Izaiah Gathings and offensive lineman Vitaliy Gurman.

Tight end Izaiah Gathings come to the Brahmas after spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2023 NFL season. The 6’4″, 222-pound Gathings played college football at Middle Tennessee State University from 2021 until 2022, where he played 24 games for the Blue Raiders. During that time, Gathings caught 84 passes for 861 yards and three touchdowns. Before playing for Middle Tennessee, Gathings played in 24 games for NCAA FCS Gardner-Webb, where he also played in 24 games, caught 101 passes for 1,341 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.

Offensive lineman Vitaliy Gurman comes to the Brahmas with the versatility to play offensive tackle and guard. Gurman’s ability to play multiple offensive-line positions could make him very valuable for the Brahmas. During the 2024 UFL season, the Brahmas were hit hard by many injuries to their offensive line in the first five games. If that trend continues in 2025, Gurman could be a pivotal player because he can fit into several different holes that could form due to injuries to offensive linemen.

The 6’4″, 310-pound Gurman spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2022 NFL season, and he also spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. Gurman started his football career at NCAA DII Edinboro University, playing 32 games for the Fighting Scots from 2016 until 2019. In 2020, Gurman transferred to the University of Toledo, where he played 18 games during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
