The San Antonio Brahmas have had a busy week making roster adjustments as they prepare to face the Saint Louis Battlehawks in Week 3 of the 2024 UFL season. Some of those adjustments were by choice, as the Brahmas chose to release wide receivers TJ Vasher and Matt Landers. Others were forced upon the Brahmas due to a neck injury suffered by placekicker Donald De La Haye, also known as YouTube star “Deestroying.”
The combination of injuries and moving on from Vasher and Landers left the Brahmas with only 46 players on their 50-man roster. A top priority for the Brahmas was to find a quality placekicker to replace De La Haye, and today, UFL insider James Larsen announced on his Twitter account that the Brahmas have signed Ryan Santoso to fill the gap as the placekicker for San Antonio.
Santoso comes to the Brahmas after spending time with several NFL teams. In 2018, Santoso started his professional football career with the Detroit Lions, but in 2019, the Lions released Him. The Tennessee Titans then signed him, and played in three games for the Titans. In 2021, Santoso spent time with the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, and the Super Bowl LVI champion Los Angeles Rams. Santoso spent portions of the 2022 NFL season with the New York Giants and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
During his NFL career, Santoso appeared in seven games and made four field goals on five attempts, including a 35-yard long. He also displayed his talent for kicking off with 21 touchbacks. In addition to his NFL experience, Santoso spent time with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL in 2019.
Wide Receiver Calvin Turner Jr. Re-Signs with the Brahmas
According to James Larsen’s Twitter account, the Brahmas have agreed to re-sign Turner Jr. and allow him to continue to attempt to make his mark with the Brahmas pass-heavy offense.
As the Brahmas shuffle their depth chart at the wide receiver position, Calvin Turner Jr. finds another opportunity to make an impact with San Antonio. In the fall of 2023, the San Antonio Brahmas drafted Turner Jr. in the XFL draft. When the Brahmas transitioned to the UFL, they chose to retain Turner Jr.’s services. After having a solid training camp, they decided to cut Turner Jr. during their second round of training camp cuts.
Before coming to the Brahmas, Turner Jr. started his college football career as a running back at NCAA FCS Jacksonville University. In 2020, Turner Jr. transferred to the University of Hawaii and transitioned into becoming a wide receiver. Turner Jr. played in 22 games for Hawaii, catching 106 passes for 1,422 yards and ten touchdowns.
Additional Roster Moves to Return to a Full Roster
In addition to signing Santoso and Turner Jr., the Brahmas have signed two additional players to restore their 50-player active roster to a full roster. According to the most recent UFL press release, the Brahmas have signed cornerback Cameron Dantzler and offensive center Alex Pihlstrom.
After spending four seasons in the NFL, Cornerback Cam Dantzler comes to the Brahmas. Dantzler entered the NFL after being selected in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings, and he stayed with the Vikings until 2022. In 2023, Dantzler spent time with the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints. During his NFL career, Dantzler played in 37 games and recorded 149 tackles and three interceptions.
Offensive lineman Alex Pihlstrom comes to the Brahmas after spending the 2023 NFL season with the New Orleans Saints. The Saints signed Pihlstrom as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Before the NFL, Pihlstrom played college football at the University of Illinois from 2017 until 2022, where he was a standout player in the Big Ten conference.
