Game week has finally arrived!

Now that the Birmingham Stallions have nailed down their opening-day roster, it’s finally time to shift our focus onto the regular season.

Anyone familiar with spring football knows that it’s a QB-driven sport.

The good news for the Stallion is that they have one heck of a QB room. Some teams struggle to find one championship-caliber QB, the Stallions have three.

Case Cookus

I can’t prove it, but I think Case Cookus is the best 3rd string QB in spring football history.

He has been around the block, to say the least.

He’s spent time with five different NFL teams:

  • New York Giants
  • Denver Broncos
  • Minnesota Vikings
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • Los Angeles Rams

He led the Philadelphia Stars to the USFL Championship Game back in 2022.

He also has UFL experience starting six games for the Memphis Showboats last season.

If Case Cookus does have his number called this season, he’s already proven himself to be up to the task.

Matt Corral

Stallions fans are already familiar with Matt Corral.

Corral was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers. He also spent time with the Patriots and Vikings.

But, he’s best known in Birmingham for coming off the bench to help lead the team to the championship game last season.

He also started the first three games before being replaced by last season’s UFL MVP Adrian Martinez.

Corral will start the season as QB 2, but he’s proven himself more than capable of stepping in when needed.

Alex McGough

The Birmingham Stallions will start the season with Alex McGough under center.

Like Matt Corral, McGough is a name the fans are familiar with. He had a lot of success in his previous stint with the team.

  • 2× USFL champion (2022, 2023)
  • USFL MVP (2023)

He spent last season with Green Bay, interestingly enough as a WR, but now he’s back in Birmingham.

2025 Season Opener

The Birmingham Stallions start their title defense on Sunday, March 30 against the DC Defenders.

You can catch the game at 2 PM CT on ESPN.

Hoping it shakes out that Matt Corral or Alex McGough have the Stallions and an expansion job hopefully with the Generals coached by Mike Riley. Both quarterbacks would have landed on their feet then. Hoping that, at worst Cookus will then have the Stallions back up job. They can then draft a young 3rd string if Sam Hartman or Adrian Martinez isn’t on the job.
