In a league of turnover and uncertainty the Battlehawks have brought back another consistent figure back for the 2025 season. After numerous NFL workouts, 2024 Kicker Andre Szymt opted to rejoin the Battlehawks in the meantime while he awaits an NFL opportunity.

Szmyt was signed to the Battlehawks on January 22nd, after the team opted to not protect or draft Kicker Donny Hageman. Szmyt would lead the UFL in Field Goals made (19) finishing the year with a Long of 61, and a FG % of 90.5. Szmyt’s 57 total points were also good for most in the UFL, edging out his teammate Jacob Saylors (54 pts on 8 TDs). So far this offseason Szmyt has worked out for the Commanders (6/11), Lions (7/26), and Packers (8/5).

Ironic enough, Specialist movement has been a bit stagnant this spring football signing cycle. Going back to 2022, 14 specialist have signed NFL contracts with 11 of them spending time on Active Rosters or Practice Squads. This signing cycle only Rex Sunhara (Brahmas LS), and Jake Bates (Panthers K) have been the only 2024 Spring Football Specialist to sign NFL contracts at the conclusion of the UFL season (Ramiz Ahmed was released by the Stallions prior to the end of the regular season).

Regardless of Szmyt’s NFL future, the Battlehawks seem secure with their Special Teams unit as both Alex Matheson and Sterling Hofrichter have opted to return for 2025. Szymt now becomes the 15th Battlehawk to confirm their return for the 2025 season, as the team prepares for their Fourth Season of play in franchise history.
