While we’ve been covering the recent migration of XFL and USFL alums heading up North to the CFL, very little has been heard about Spring Football Alums joining the European League of Football. Over the past Two days, Two more players who were released from UFL teams also have found employment however instead of going to Canada have found their way across the “pond”.

Battlehawks Draft Pick Darion Chafin and 2023 Seattle Sea Dragons Kicker Dominik Eberle both have signed contracts with the Tirol Raiders, and Berlin Thunder respectively. Chafin was drafted by the Battlehawks in the 2023 Rookie Draft, signing a contract with the team after an injury to Jachour Pearson. Eberle was signed by Seattle after the team released drafted Kicker Brandon Ruiz going 14 of 18 on Fields for the Sea Dragons. Chafin was released by the Battlehawks during training camp, while Eberle was not selected in the UFL dispersal draft.

Eberle and Chafin join players like Reece Horn (AAF, TSL, and XFL), and Ben Holmes (CFL, USFL), who have recently opted for another opportunity overseas as American Spring Football essentially cut half their workforce in half. For Chafin a young Wide Receiver who did garner some NFL attention the European League of Football offers an opportunity for him to gain film and experience playing at the professional level much like it did for KaVontae Turpin and Madre London. Eberle, a more seasoned veteran also returns to his home-country of Germany and will not only serve as a great asset for the Thunder but as an ambassador to the League for a team that’s led by former NFL 1st Round Pick Bjorn Werner.

Overall, as the United Football League continues to find its footing and CFL rosters continue to “fill out” look for more and more of these players to continue to find opportunities abroad. With over 400 released from UFL contracts the European League of Football is prime position to grow and enhance their league supplemented by American talent working together with European Natives.
