This is a great idea for the UFL to get involved in the communities they represent. With the teams not actually living here, this is a great way and much appreciated way to make your presence known in the community. St. Louis was down this season in attendance by right at 14% and things like this could make a difference in the future.
Another way would be to start the season earlier, closer to the end of the NFL season. This would catch people in February while their football interest is fresh and keep fans from finding other interests first.
I have several friends who had season tickets last year only to drop them this year because, by the time the season gets into full swing, they’re already chasing their kids to baseball tournaments every weekend. Many of these folks still attended some Battlehawk’s games but not as many as they might’ve had they started earlier prior to their kids baseball season. I realize they weren’t the whole 14% but there were several of them who had Season Tickets for their whole family that didn’t renew. Like I said, most still attended some games and are still fans but once April hits, youth baseball is pretty big around these parts and the odds of a conflict happening for the next 10 weekends with the football schedule beginning late is great enough that many decided they would simply go to B’hawks games when they could fit it between their kids ballgames.
Just something to consider when deciding on when the UFL schedule should begin.
Again though, thanks to the UFL for stepping up to help the tornado victims. Something they couldn’t get from their own federal government!
