The NFL journey for Jonathan Garvin continues as the season heads into week nine. After several workouts since being released by the San Francisco 49ers, the 2024 Birmingham Stallion Defensive Lineman remains in the NFL cycle by signing with the Chicago Bears on their practice squad.
Garvin was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2020 as a 7th round draft pick out of Miami. He’d spend three seasons in Green Bay before being released in July of 2023. After spending 2023 off NFL rosters, Garvin took a flier with the UFL signing with the Birmingham Stallions for the 2024 season becoming one of Skip Holtz’s most dependable defenders. The Stallions would win their third championship in franchise history with Garvin starting in all 12 games for Birmingham, totaling 19 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two PBUs.
Garvin would sign with the 49ers on August 8th 2024, spending the season on and off the practice squad for San Francisco earning approx. $222,900 per sportac. Currently he is one of 10 players from the UFL’s 2024 NFL class to earn a paycheck from an NFL team this season.
Garvin also joins Maurice Alexander (2022 USFL Philadelphia Stars), and Scott Daly (2020 XFL New York Guardians) as members of spring football on the Bears roster. Currently Spring Football players have earned over $50 Million dollars this season, with the 2024 UFL class scheduled to earn over 6.5 million and counting.
Other Spring Football Notes
