While fans of the UFL will often get excited about their favorite players joining an NFL squad, the CFL has done a great job of stacking talent from down south. Players like Jack Coan, Isaac Darkangelo, Lorenzo Burns, and others have all carved out decent careers up north once they moved on from the UFL. On July 2nd all 9 CFL teams released their full negotiation lists giving CFL teams the right to sign the listed players if they are available.

As mentioned above, it’s not uncommon for UFL to opt to send their talents to the CFL soon after the season concludes. Darnell Sankey, and Brett Boyko are among some players that “double-dipped” in the 2023 season, while others have taken a year off like McLeod Bethel-Thompson. As the UFL off-season continues look for major roster realignment as players transition to the NFL, Retirement, and the CFL.

Other than sending players up to Canada and the NFL, shouldn’t the UFL be trying to make some news of their own? It never hurts to have people talking about you, to stay relevant. Expansion news, relocation thoughts, coaching changes, etc. It feels like the season ended rather quickly and there’s nothing to talk about. The league just went away.
I understand the season is over but this league has a lot of things that need to be reconciled between now and next March. Am I just having football withdrawal?
C’mon UFL, leak a little!

Thanks for reporting on this.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders have an excellent but aging quarterback. They need to start planning for the future. Alex McGough would be a solid choice.
2× USFL champion (2022, 2023), USFL MVP (2023), USFL passing touchdowns leader (2023), USFL passer rating leader (2023), USFL completion percentage leader (2023), All-USFL Team (2023).
It’s a little surprising Jordan Ta’amu isn’t on anyone’s list after an impressive regular season and dominating performance in the UFL championship game.

Ta’amu has been on the Neg list in years past most recently in 2023 with the Roughriders.
McGough I think gives it one more go this year in the UFL. He’s made almost 2M in the NFL plus his UFL/USFL paychecks and NFL training camp earnings.
I think it’s about done he fails to stick on an NFL roster in 2026.

Are UFL players free to sign in the CFL after their spring season is over, or are they only allowed to sign with NFL teams?
by Patrick
They have to be released from their contract.
Caleb Johnson (LB from the Renegades) is having an issue. He was reported to have signed however, it has not been official with the team.
