Week 3 of the 2024 UFL season was a breakout week for several offensive units across the league. Traditionally, defenses have a much faster start to a season than offenses due to the need for each component of a team’s offense to build chemistry and find their timing. In the first two weeks of the season, it would have been a safe bet to expect teams to score under the expected number of points, but his week, several teams had explosive performances on offense.

A significant component in the improvement seen by offenses across the UFL is the growth of quarterback play across the league. This week, several quarterbacks who had failed to find their rhythm with their offensive weapons found a spark and lit up the scoreboard. Other quarterbacks’ performance is struggling to improve primarily due to a lack of pass protection or a solid running game.

Let’s take a look at how each quarterback played in Week 3 and rank each starting quarterback based on their quarterback efficiency rating (QBR).

#1 EJ Perry, Michigan Panthers (2-1)

Week 3 was a massive week for quarterback EJ Perry and his Panthers as they picked up an important USFL Conference win against the Houston Roughnecks. Perry showed why he is starting quarterback for the Panthers by completing 16 out of 19 passes for 208 yards, which resulted in one touchdown and no interceptions. He also added 60 rushing yards on nine carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. Perry made a massive jump in his quarterback efficiency this week with a QBR of 193.5.

#2 Adrian Martinez, Birmingham Stallions (3-0)

In his first standalone start of the 2024 season, Adrian Martinez was another quarterback to have a breakout game for his team. During the Stallion’s dominant victory over the Memphis Showboats, Martinez completed 18 out of 28 passes for a whopping 334 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Martinez also added five runs for 44 yards, with his lone error being a fumble early in the game that set up a short field for a Memphis touchdown. After struggling to find a rhythm in Week 2, Martinez posted a QBR of 188.1.

#3 Jordan Ta’amu, DC Defenders (2-1)

In the last two games, Jordan Ta’amu has done enough to lead his team to critical wins. This week, Ta’amu completed 11 out of 24 passes for 188 yards, resulting in two touchdowns and no interceptions. More importantly, he kickstarted the Defenders running game in the fourth quarter, allowing the Defenders to steal a 29-28 win on the road against the Renegades. Ta’amu posted a QBR of 139.1 this week, but more importantly, he made the plays when his team needed him to make to get a conference win.

#4 Luis Perez, Arlington Renegades (0-3)

Luis Perez is one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the UFL, and while his Arlington team is winless this season, Perez has done his part to give the Renegades a chance to win games. This week, Perez completed 24 out of 40 passes for 290 yards, resulting in two touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also added 40 rushing yards on ten rush attempts. Perez’s performance was good enough to earn a QBR of 137.4.

#5 AJ McCarron, Saint Louis Battlehawks (2-1)

AJ McCarron is another battle-tested quarterback who does what he needs to do to help his offense get into the end zone. This week, McCarron completed 19 out of 27 passes for 152 yards, resulting in one touchdown and no interceptions. McCarron also ran the ball four times for 21 yards, including scoring a rushing touchdown. McCarron’s performance was enough for the Battlehawks to bring the San Antonio Brahmas back to the pack in the XFL Conference. This week, McCarron’s performance resulted in a QBR of 129.9.

#6 Chase Garbers, San Antonio Brahmas (2-1) – Ruled Out For Season

Chase Garbers and the San Antonio Brahmas offense can be the best in the league and the worst during each week. For the second week in a row, the Brahmas found themselves down in the 2nd half while trying to find a way to pick up another comeback win; this week, the Brahmas came up short. Even with the game’s disappointing ending, Garbers completed 27 out of 41 passes for 143 yards, resulting in one touchdown and no interceptions. This week, Garbers had a significant dip in his QBR, earning a rating of 103.2. Unfortunately, the Brahmas have announced that Garbers will miss the rest of the season due to a wrist injury.

#7 Case Cookus, Memphis Showboats (1-2)

Case Cookus’s most significant victory in Week 3 was surviving a brutal onslaught of physical pass rushers from the Birmingham Stallions. The Stallions sacked the Showboats quarterbacks eight times, but more importantly, the hits taken during the quarterback sacks were crushing blows. While under fire, Cookus could still complete 15 out of 22 passes for 139 yards, resulting in one touchdown and no interceptions. Near the end of the game, Cookus found himself on the bench in favor of backup quarterback Troy Wiliams, and Williams completed 11 out of 19 passes for 100 yards while turning over the ball with one interception. Cookus earned a QBR of 136.3 while surviving a beatdown from the Stallions, and Williams posted a QBR of 91.6.

#8 Reid Sinnett, Houston Roughnecks (0-3)

The Houston Roughnecks are another team that struggled to protect its quarterback in its loss against the Michigan Panthers. Sinnett got his first start of the 2024 season with Jarrett Guarantano out with an injury. With his opportunity to start, he completed 19 out of 28 passes for 197 yards, resulting in one touchdown and one interception. He also added a rushing touchdown while running the ball five times for 19 yards and a touchdown. This week, Sinnett posted a QBR of 131.6.
