D.C. Defenders @ San Antonio Brahmas

The D.C. Defenders, coming off an impressive 9-1 record in the XFL last season, look to continue their dominance in the UFL. Can they return to Championship form after their lost last seasons XFL Championship game loss to Arlington.

With head coach Reggie Barlow and coordinators Fred Kaiss (offense) and Gregg Williams (defense) returning, the Defenders have a strong foundation. Key players to watch include quarterback Jordan Ta’amu, DL Trent Harris, LB Reggie Northrup and WR Keke Coutee. With Abram Smith out for the season, it will be interesting to see who will be the main RB for the team in 2024. Cam’Ron Harris is slated to be the guy.

The San Antonio Brahmas, under new head coach Wade Phillips, aim to improve upon their 3-7 record from the XFL. The Brahmas’ defense should be solid with Phillips at the helm, but the offense, led by starting quarterback Chase Garbers. Receivers Cody Latimer and Jontre Kirklin will be crucial to the Brahmas’ offensive success.

UFL Betting Odds favor the Defenders at -6, with a total of 44.5 points. The Defenders’ experience and talent give them the edge, but don’t count out the Brahmas’ potential for an upset.

Memphis Showboats @ Houston Roughnecks

The Memphis Showboats, under the guidance of former New Orleans Breakers coach John DeFilippo, have undergone significant changes during the offseason. The addition of quarterback Case Cookus, who was one of the UFL’s top performers last season, should bolster the Showboats’ offense.

The Houston Roughnecks, formerly known as the Houston Gamblers, will be without their star pass rusher Chris Odom. The key to the Roughnecks’ success will be the performance of their quarterback Jarrett Guarantano. Both Reid Sinnett and Nolan Henderson will be waiting in the wings.

UFL Picks lean towards the Showboats in this matchup, but expect a close game, as previous encounters between the Showboats and Gamblers in the USFL were often tightly contested.

UFL Picks & Prediction:

  • D.C. Defenders 27, San Antonio Brahmas 17
  • Memphis Showboats 24, Houston Roughnecks 20
