Which former spring football player provided one of the only bright spots for their team this week scoring on one of the most exciting and explosive plays this season?
KaVontae Turpin-Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver and Return Specialist
Former New Jersey General star receiver KaVontae Turpin has been one of the few bright spots for a rapidly sinking Dallas Cowboys team this year. Continuing to shine as both a return specialist and wide receiver, Turpin scored a 64-yard touchdown Monday night in one of the most explosive plays all year. Turpin torched the Houston Texans’ defense for the score at a speed of over 22 miles per hour. Unfortunately, Turpin’s amazing score would be the Cowboys’ only touchdown in the 34-10 loss to the Texans.
Brandon Aubrey-Dallas Cowboys Kicker
Turpin’s teammate and former Birmingham Stallions kicker Brandon Aubrey provided the only other score in the Cowboys’ loss last night with a 53-yard kick and one extra point. Sadly, when it rains this season in Dallas it pours. Aubrey missed on a second field goal, a rarity for the talented kicker when he failed to convert on a 40-yard attempt.
Kevin Austin Jr. -New Orleans Saints Wide Receiver
The New Orleans Saints and their new interim head coach, Darren Rizzi played spoiler on Sunday to ruin the homecoming of former Saints quarterback Jameis Winston.
Winning their second consecutive game under Rizzi, the Saints look like they’ve regained some of the magic the team displayed early in the season. Saints tight end and all-purpose utility player Taysom Hill scored three rushing touchdowns off direct snaps in the 35-14 over the Cleveland Browns. Former Birmingham Stallions wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr. had one reception for 18 yards in the Saints victory.
Jalen Redmond-Minnesota Vikings Defensive End
The Minnesota Vikings had two former spring football players on the field Sunday for their 23-13 win over the Tennessee Titans. Jalen Redmond, the former D.C. Defenders DE had 1 solo tackle and assisted on another.
John Parker Romo -Minnesota Vikings Kicker
Former San Antonio Brahas kicker John Parker Romo played his second consecutive game for the Minnesota Vikings and has been perfect with five out of five field goals. On Sunday, he scored with a 40-yard field goal and added two of three extra points.
Rex Sunahara-Cleveland Browns Long Snapper
Former San Antonio Brahmas long snapper Rex Sunahara was on the field Sunday for the Browns in their loss to the New Orleans Saints 35-14.
Dondrea Tillman -Denver Broncos Offensive Linebacker
Former San Antonio Brahmas Offensive linebacker Dondrea Tillman was instrumental in the Denver Broncos’ 38-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons contributing one solo tackle with two assists.
Jake Bates -Detroit Lions Kicker
As the 9-1 Detroit Lions continue their offensive onslaught outscoring their NFL opponents by 168 points this season, Jake Bates remains perfect on the year with 15 out of 15 field goals. On Sunday, the former Michigan Panthers‘ sensational young kicker added another stunning 54-yard field goal and seven out of seven extra points. Converting 39 of 40 attempts, Bates has only missed one extra point all season.
