Naming a first and second team of the week following the second week of the UFL season. The purpose of this project is to shine a light on players who are standing out in their respective positions.

Offensive player of the week: WR Jonathan Adams (Memphis Showboats): 9 catches on 10 targets to lead the UFL in receiving at 128 yards in week 2.

Defensive player of the week: CB D.J. Miller Jr. (Michigan Panthers): Only allowed 1 reception for 9 yards on 6 targets his way and became the first player in a UFL game to have 2 interceptions in 1 game.

Week 2 UFL 1st Team of the Week

Offense

QB: Manny Wilkins (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Wilkins had the highest QBR in Week 2 as he completed 12 of his 16 passes for 162 yards and added 58 rushing yards.

RB: Jacob Saylors (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Saylors rushed 11 times for 46 yards (4.2 average), including 3 touchdowns. He also caught 3 passes for 25 yards.

WR: Jonathan Adams (Memphis Showboats)

Adams was a bright spot in a dim offense in Week 2 as he was the only receiver in the UFL to top 100 yards. He caught 9 of his 10 targets for 128 yards, 42 of which were YAC.

WR: Deon Cain (Birmingham Stallions)

Cain caught all 4 of his targets for 84 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown. He had 2 missed tackles forced in the game.

WR: Jontre Kirklin (San Antonio Brahmas)

Kirklin caught 4 of his 8 targets for 43 yards and had 3 missed tackles forced in Week 2.

TE: Sal Cannella (Arlington Renegades)

Cannella again led the UFL in receiving yards among tight ends as he caught 2 of his 4 targets for 39 yards.

LT: Jaryd Jones-Smith (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Jones-Smith allowed only 1 pressure in Week 2, which was the lowest among starting left tackles.

LG: Deonte Brown (Birmingham Stallions)

Deonte Brown did not allow a single pressure in Week 2’s win against Michigan.

C: Noah Johnson (Michigan Panthers)

Johnson was the only starting center not to allow a single pressure in Week 2.

RG: Abdul Beecham (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Beecham allowed only a single pressure in Week 2, which was the lowest among starting right guards.

RT: Juwann Bushell-Beatty (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Juwann Bushell-Beatty was one of 2 starting right tackles to not allow a single pressure in Week 2.

Defense

DE: Bradlee Anae (Birmingham Stallions)

Anae recorded 2 sacks in the win against Michigan and generated 6 additional pressures.

DT: Joe Wallace (D.C. Defenders)

Wallace recorded 4 tackles and was in on 2 run stops. He generated 6 pressures in the pass rush in Week 2, which was the most among defensive tackles across the UFL.

DT: Devonnsha Maxwell (D.C. Defenders)

Maxwell was in on 4 run stops (2 shared, 2 solo), although he was credited with 3 tackles on the stat sheet. He had the most total run stops among defensive tackles by my count and generated 2 pressures in the pass rush.

DE: Pita Taumoepenu (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Taumoepenu had 2 tackles, a sack, and 7 additional pressures in Week 2’s win over San Antonio.

LB: Momo Sanogo (D.C. Defenders)

Sanogo led the Defenders in total tackles with 7 in Week 2’s win over Memphis and was in on 6 stops (a solo run stop, 4 shared run stops, and a solo stop against a 2-yard pass).

LB: Tavante Beckett (San Antonio Brahmas)

Beckett had 8 total tackles, including 6 total run stops (3 solo run stops and 3 shared run stops).

LB: Zeke Vandenburgh (Memphis Showboats)

Vandenburgh had a strong game against DC as he recorded 7 tackles. He was in on 5 total stops, including a solo run stop, 3 shared run stops, and a solo stop against the pass on a 4-yard play.

CB: D.J. Miller Jr. (Michigan Panthers)

Miller became the first player to record 2 interceptions in a UFL game, which he did against the Birmingham Stallions. He had 6 targets come his way in Week 2, and only 1 resulted in a completion, which was for 9 yards.

S: Kai Nacua (Michigan Panthers)

Nacua had 8 tackles, including a tackle for a 6-yard loss on a screen play. He was in on a run stop and 2 stops against the pass. He did have a missed tackle on a 17-yard Deon Cain reception early in the game but was again one of the most impactful safeties in Week 2.

S: A.J. Thomas (Birmingham Stallions)

Thomas recorded 5 tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup. He only allowed 1 reception, which was for 8 yards, and generated a turnover early in the 2nd half when he caught a tipped pass.

CB: Ajene Harris (Arlington Renegades)

Harris had 7 targets come his way in Week 2, and only 2 were caught, which went for a total of 19 yards. He had 2 breakups and an interception, as well as 2 tackles.

Special Teams

K: Rodrigo Blankenship (St. Louis Battlehawks)

Blankenship made both of his field goals, with the longest being from 45 yards down the middle. He also made a field goal from 22 yards. Additionally, he made an attempt from 24 yards, but the play was negated by a penalty that resulted in the drive being extended.

P: Marquette King (Arlington Renegades)

King had 5 punts in Week 2, averaging 46 yards per punt with 2 inside the 20. His first punt of the game was the longest punt in Week 2 of the UFL among all punters with a 69-yard bomb that stopped at the 2-yard line.

Returner: Anthony McFarland (San Antonio Brahmas)

McFarland returned 5 kickoffs for 134 yards (26.8 average).
