A notable change in team branding accompanies this announcement. The Houston market, a shared stronghold for both the XFL and USFL, sees the USFL’s Houston Gamblers evolving into the Houston Roughnecks, embodying a new identity in this collaborative league.

The UFL’s inaugural season is scheduled to kick off with a high-stakes opening game, pitting the 2023 champions from each conference against each other: Birmingham Stallions representing the USFL and Arlington Renegades from the XFL. This opening match promises to set a dynamic tone for the season. Players are expected to report to the training camp, which will be held on February 24, 2024, in Arlington, Texas.

The league’s leadership in coaching is a blend of seasoned professionals from both the XFL and USFL, bringing together a wealth of experience and dedication. The head coaches for the UFL’s inaugural season include Skip Holtz for the Stallions, Curtis Johnson helming the Roughnecks, John DeFilippo for the Showboats, and Mike Nolan leading the Panthers. Representing the XFL conference, Bob Stoops will coach the Renegades, Reggie Barlow the Defenders, Wade Phillips for the Brahmas, and Anthony Becht taking charge of the Battlehawks.
