The USFL Conference is still very much up for grabs.

The difference between first and third place is only one game. The Birmingham Stallions and the Houston Roughnecks also happen to be the teams in first and third place.

That makes this a big game. Even at 1–2, the Roughnecks are only one game away from potentially being on top of the conference.

Both teams are headed into the game coming off wins, which makes this a fun matchup to watch.

Birmingham Stallions

The Stallions have come a long way in the last few weeks.

They opened the season with a tough loss to the DC Defenders. They’ve since rebounded with two straight wins.

Despite the recent success, it hasn’t all been rosy for the Stallions. The offense has struggled somewhat, with the defense helping to keep them afloat

It will be interesting to see if the Stallions can play more complementary football going forward.

QB Matt Corral will be making his third start of the season. He’s looked good at times, but has been somewhat inconsistent. Hopefully, the extra practice time and return of WR Deon Cain will help jumpstart the offense.

Houston Roughnecks

The Houston Roughnecks started the season with two straight losses.

Last week, they bounced back with a hard-fought win over the Memphis Showboats (18–17)

Offensively, the Roughnecks are only averaging 200 yards per game. They will need to do better than that to find sustainable success.

Defensively, the Roughnecks have looked much improved after a tough week one against the Battlehawks. They will look to continue that improvement this weekend.
