According to UFL Insider @JamesLarsenPFN, the San Antonio Brahmas have signed their first free agent in 2024 by acquiring former Vegas Vipers running back John Lovett.

Lovett became a dynamic playmaker for the Vegas Vipers during the 2023 season. Lovett joins a loaded group of six running backs on the Brahmas 2024 roster. Based on Lovett’s success with the XFL Vipers in 2023, he should have a chance to push for a starting position at running back for San Antonio. He may also be a good fit as a 3rd down back for San Antonio, and he may also be able to be a contributor on special teams.

Let’s look at the path that led John Lovett to the San Antonio Brahmas in 2024.

Lovett is a 6’0″, 209-pound running back from Burlington, New Jersey. During the 2023 XFL season, Lovett played all ten games for the Vegas Vipers. The dynamic running back had 59 rushing attempts for 227 yards and three rushing touchdowns, and he also had 14 pass receptions for 269 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Before coming to the Vipers, Lovett spent time with the Carolina Panthers in 2022, and after the 2023 XFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Lovett.

The native of New Jersey played college football at Baylor University and finished his college career at Penn State University. Lovett played 37 games for Baylor throughout four seasons from 2017 until 2020. During his career with the Bears, he had 355 rushing attempts for 1,803 yards, 17 rushing touchdowns, and 29 receptions for 183 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He finished his senior year at Penn State University in 2021, where he played in nine games, had 52 carries for 177 yards, and caught nine passes for 36 yards.
